Chandigarh, July 20: Today, teachers of Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh organized a prize distribution function to mark the culmination of a ‘Read Bapu Dham Contest’ at Kitabghar library cum children’s centre of Yuvsatta at Bapudham Colony, Sector 26, Chandigarh.

Giving information about the initiative Sr. Mary Supreeta shared that through this month long Reading campaign during summer vacations of June, there teachers motivated young marginalized children’s to spend most of their leisure time on reading good books at Kitabghar library, which over 200 children’s of the area visit. And they honoured the best 10 young readers for the maximum number of books they read in their holidays. Books for the programme and Prizes for the winners were donated by teachers of Carmel Convent School.

First prize of a brand new bicycle for reading maximum number of books was won by a girl Sandhya, class 9th student of Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Timber Market, Sector 26, Chandigarh. Twenty more students also got prizes for reading good books, excelling in academics etc. A birthday party for all the girls of Kitabghar born in month of July was also organized on the occasion.

Later addressing the participating young ones Preeti Swami a teacher of Carmel Convent said that promoting good reading habits can lead to good and active citizens in the society, who can be aware of not only their rights but duties towards nation and society as well. She said that value for good education, health and hygiene are the benchmark for any progressive society.
