CHANDIGARH,15.01.20-To usher the new semester with divine blessings, the Arya Samaj Committee and Arya Yuvti Samaj of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a havan ceremony. A monthly ritual, the havan aims to inculcate vedic values in the students. The atmosphere soaked in divinity as the staff and students offered prayers to the holy fire amidst chanting of shlokas and mantras. The spiritually elevating ritual of havan was followed by a Declamation Competition on the topic 'Importance of Books'. The contestants eloquently put forth their thoughts and views highlighting the immensely significant role of books in development of an individual's personality and cognitive abilities. The faculty and students whose birthday falls in the month of January received blessings from college Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava. Meharpreet (BA I) stood first in the competition while Tavleen (BA2) and Kajal (BA 2) grabbed the second and third position, respectively.

Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava asserted that for a wholesome personality, the younger generation should read religious scriptures as well as scientific books and autobiographies. Urging the youth to read extensively, she said that reading about illustrious personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Shivaji, Margaret Thatcher, Anne Frank and others has been instrumental in shaping her perspective about various aspects of life.
