CHANDIGARH,Friday 17.01.2020: GGDSD Model United Nations (MUN) 2020, a three-day conference titled ‘Zimane-Azadiye’ was kicked off at the campus today. More than 250 delegates from renowned institutions across India and abroad participated with full fervour. The MUN saw a number of delegates from Sudan. The opening ceremony was marked by vibrant and energetic cultural performances to celebrate the commencement of the 7th edition of this annual event. The ceremony was graced by Dean College Development Council, Panjab University, Mr. Sanjay Kaushik, highlighted the importance of the theme of the conference and said that the Language of liberty is one that belongs to all.

Principal GGDSD College and Director GGDSD MUN 2020 Dr. Balraj Thapar, welcomed the delegates and briefed the audience about the aim of the conference. He said, “the conference would provide the students with a platform to have an educated, engaging and empowering discussion on vital issues of global consequence.” Dr. Monika Soni, teacher in-charge GGDSD MUN, emphasised on the learning opportunity that the Model United Nations offers to its participants.

The GGDSD MUN 2020 comprises four committees to stimulate a discussion on vital agendas regarding contemporary geopolitics. The GGDSD MUN 2020 is host to the following committees:

1. United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
2. United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
3. All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM)
4. United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW)
