CHANDIGARH,30.03.24-A minor fire incident occurred today at the Advanced Cardiac Centre (ACC), PGIMER, Chandigarh. The incident took place at approximately 1:13 p.m. in the Operation Theatre no 2, 4th floor, ACC, PGIMER.

The fire control room at the Cardiac Centre received a fire signal from OT number 2 on the 4th floor. The Fire guards/fire officers/ Chief Security officer promptly responded to the distress call and took immediate action to control the fire, extinguishing it within a span of 5 minutes.

Upon initial investigation, it was determined that the fire originated from a spark in the pendant socket of the Operation Theatre.

Due to ongoing surgical procedures, the OT was occupied at the time of the incident. The patient was immediately shifted safely to the adjacent CTVS ICU to ensure the safety and uninterrupted care.

PGI authorities have already initiated necessary measures to address the situation. The engineering wing has dispatched a team of experts to assess the damage and commence the restoration work.

Senior functionaries from the Institute’s Administration immediately reached the spot to assess and expedite the restoration process. Fortunately, there have been no injuries or casualties reported as a result of this incident. The overall functioning of the ACC has not been significantly disrupted, and the medical services remain unaffected.
