CHANDIGARH, 06.04.24-World Health Day 2024 was celebrated by Local Branch of Indian Public Health Association(IPHA), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh in collaboration with National Institute of Nursing Education(NINE), PGIMER, Chandigarh on the theme ‘My Health My Right ’ on 6th April 2024. Dr Sukhpal Kaur, Principal, NINE formally welcomed the Guests, speakers and participants. The Event was inaugurated by Prof. Vivek Lal, DPGI, Chandigarh. He emphasized that it is the duty of Health Professionals to ensure and protect the Health rights of public. While unfolding the theme, Prof. J. S. Thakur, Vice President, IPHA local Branch PGIMER, Chandigarh highlighted the efforts of GOI towards achieving the goal of right to health by initiating Universal Health Coverage under Ayushman Bharat through PMJAY and Health & Wellness Centres.


A Panel discussion was also held with the theme. The panelists delved on the different aspects of Right to Health. Dr. Virender Kumar, Prof. Emeritus, Founding Director, (Academics) Chandigarh Judicial Academy elaborated on Health and Human rights; Prof. Vipin Kaushal, Medical Superintendent , PGIMER, Chandigarh discussed the role of a tertiary care centre related to Right to Health; Dr Sukhpal Kaur highlighted the role of nurses related to Right to Health. Human Right treaties including right to health and economic implications was elaborated by Dr Shankar Prinja, Professor, Dept. Com. Med. & SPH. Mr. Hemant Goswami, Social Activist highlighted the responisibilty of the state to address the determinants to enforce Right to Health. Prof. Rajesh Vijayvergiya, Prof. Deptt. of Cardiology highlighted the implications of the right to health on clinical practice. Prof. J. S Thakur moderated the Panel Discussion. To conclude it was discussed that right to health demands accountability, accessibility and non- violation of others’ rights.
