Markfed MD inspects wheat procurement in Khanna grain market

Khanna (Ludhiana) (<dipr.pb.chdsectt6@gmail.com>), April 20:Managing Director Markfed Mr Girish Dayalan on Saturday inspected wheat procurement operations at Khanna grain market.

Taking stock of the ground level situation in the Asia's largest grain market, Girish Dayalan accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, Markfed Additional Managing Director Sandeep Singh Garha, Chief Manager Yashpal Sharma said that elaborate arrangements were already in place for smooth lifting, purchase and transportation of wheat.

He said that massive efforts were afoot to complete this operation with the active support of all the stakeholders. Dayalan also asked the District Mangers of all the procurement agencies to make sure that farmers do not face any sort of inconvenience during the season. He also ordered the officials to regularly visit the districts and take stock of the ground level situation.

He stated that the pace of arrivals and purchase would pick up in the coming days hence the officials need to be ready to ensure prompt lifting to avoid glut.

Later, the officials also visited grain market at Samrala.

Meanwhile taking part in deliberations, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said that due to adequate arrangements, the administration managed to save the produce in the grain markets from inclement weather.

She said that till to date, 42372.90 MT wheat had arrived into grain markets of which 77-percent purchased by agencies. The payments worth Rs 44.982 crores had also been paid to the farmers. She also urged the farmers to bring dry produce to the grain markets for instant purchase.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Sub Inspector for taking Rs 5000 bribe

Chandigarh, April 20, 2024 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Saturday has apprehended Sub Inspector (SI) of Police, Dhanvinder Singh, posted at Police Station village Kambo, under Amritsar rural police district red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Dinesh Sharma, a resident of Chheharta, Amritsar district.

He further informed that the said complainant has approached the VB and informed that he had sold his car to his acquaintance namely Malkit Singh, who has refused to pay sale amount. The complainant further alleged that the said police personnel has been demanding Rs 10,000 for getting his car back from Malkit Singh and had already took Rs 2000 in this regard.

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary inquiry about this complaint the VB team lad a trap during which the accused SI was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the police personnel at VB police station Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress.
