The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised a 30-hour program on ‘Instrumentation: Relevance in Modern Science and Technology’. The program was held in collaboration with Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), under the aegis of Department of Chemistry and Center for Advanced Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Spanning over five days, the program started with keynote lecture on ‘The Science of seeing small: High Resolution Imaging and Spectroscopy’ by Dr. Moondeep Chauhan, Assistant Professor cum Scientist in the instrumentation facility at Amity University, Mohali. The lecture was followed by two-day hands-on workshops on the spectroscopic instruments including a visit to the instrumentation facility at Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh, to give them exposure to the use of technology in research and modern science. The students were engaged into problem solving based on learning during the hands-on training. On the final day, the students actively participated in Poster and Rangoli making competitions wherein prizes were given to the best three entries. During the valedictory ceremony, an enlightening lecture was delivered by the Chief Guest Prof. Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Chairman, Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh on the topic ‘Characterisation and Applications of nano structures’. The students enthusiastically participated in various events and it was a great learning experience for them.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma applauded the efforts of the Chemistry Department, adding that this initiative is a reiteration of the vision of the college to make education an ever evolving endeavour that upholds the national vision of skill- oriented education, and inspires innovation.
