Chandigarh, 10 November: The Foreign Students’ Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with Government College, Chamba, and under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a workshop titled ‘Changing Gender Realities: A Reflection on Everyday Life’. The resource person, Dr. Reena Chaudhary, from the Centre for Distance and Online Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh, conducted an engaging and thought-provoking session that examined the evolving concept of gender in everyday contexts.

Dr. Chaudhary highlighted the persistence of gender-typed occupations, wage disparities, and unequal representation in leadership, politics, and STEM fields, while also acknowledging progress made by women across sectors. Addressing issues such as workplace imbalance, unequal access to education, sanitation challenges, and the digital divide, Dr. Chaudhary illustrated how subtle gender differences continue to influence daily life. She cited inspiring examples of women leaders like Malala Yousafzai, Kiran Bedi, Kamala Harris, Indira Gandhi, Avani Chaturvedi, and Sania Mirza, who have redefined societal roles and driven meaningful change, encouraging students to be catalysts of transformation. The workshop culminated with an interactive discussion where students shared personal reflections and experiences.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the initiative, stating that workshops like these play a vital role in nurturing sensitivity and understanding among students. She added that gender equality is not just a social issue but a human value, and such discussions encourage young minds to question biases and contribute to a more equitable world.
