Government invites nomination for State level awards


The State Government has invited the nominations for the State level Awards, namely Himachal Gaurav Purskar, Prerna Srot Samman and Civil Service awards, which would be conferred on Himachal Day.


A Spokesperson of the government said that the last date for receiving nominations or recommendation in GAD, HP Secretariat had been fixed for 31 December, 2017.


                 He said that the recommendations should be sent on the prescribed proforma along with a brief write-up (citation) in Hindi (maximum two pages), in narrative form clearly bringing out the distinguished and exceptional achievements or services justifying the recommendation of eligible person or organisation after due verification.


                He said that while making recommendations only relevant papers required under the prescribed forms should be sent to the GAD office and the schemes, alongwith prescribed proforma for sending nomination were available on the Government website (


Special campaign for registering electors

                       The State Election department has launched a special campaign to register the electors who so far have not been able to register their names in photo electoral rolls.

A Spokesperson of the department said here today that the campaign would continue till 30 September, 2017 and the booth level officers were preparing the photo identity cards  by visiting each household. The voters who have completed 18 years of age on 1st January, 2017 would be eligible for making  their cards and exercise their franchise in coming Vidhan Sabha elections.

He said that the eligible voter should fill up form number-6 alongwith required documents and apply to the booth level officers or offices of SDM and Tehsildar concerned. They can also apply online on the web portal


Women empowerment only possible though good education: Governor

Governor Acharya Devvrat said that primary objective of the education was to instil human values among children and huge responsibility rested on the shoulders of teachers who carried out the most important task of nation building.

He was speaking during the annual function of DAV Public School Lakkar Bazar, here today.

The Governor urged the teaching community to take up the challenge of building nation dedicatedly as they carved the destinies of pupils as well as of country.  He said that they influenced the minds of students powerfully than any other, hence instilling good values, shaping the character of students at young age could have a lasting effect. He said the students should prove to be assets to the nation then only the purpose of education could be fulfilled.

He called upon youth to come forward to build a clean and healthy society free of all the social evils. He said that there was a need to adopt traditional values and ancient wisdom of our rich traditional literature which were almost forgotten in the present times.  He stressed upon educating the girl child and empowering women in the society by according them proper status and respect.

Lauding the contribution of Swami Dayanand, he said that swami not only revived the glory of our rich culture but also laid foundation for removing social evils from the society. He said that girl's education and upliftment of women were also the main focus areas of Swami Dayanand. He said that it was essential to empower women in the society and education was best means to achieve the same. He used to say that India had fallen to such a miserable condition precisely because women were not given education but were kept in ignorance. He also encouraged the widows remarriage and raised voice against this social stigma.

The Governor lauded the contribution of DAV institutions in imparting qualitative value based education.

He visited an exhibition put up by the students of the school;

Padam Shree Awardee Dr. Poonam Suri, President, DAV managing committee & President, Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Sabha, New Delhi briefed about the qualitative educating being imparted through DAV institutes in 23 states of the country. He lauded the efforts of the teachers who have been brought DAV to the heights of success.

Principal, Kamna Beri said that the school had made a commendable progress in academics, co curricular and extracurricular activities and was emerging as a leading centre for creative, experimental, innovative education in Shimla.

A colourful cultural programme was presented on the occasion.

Shimla running and leaving marathon on 24 September

The Shimla running and leaving marathon run would be organized on 24 September, 2017 by the Running and Living Infotainment Pvt. Limited in collaboration with the department of Youth Services and Sports at Shimla.

Director, Youth Services and Sports Shri Amarjeet Singh presided over a meeting here today with representatives of various departments to coordinate arrangements for this event.

He disclosed that 25/21.1 kilometers run would start at 6 AM from Ashiana restaurant, Ridge down to Annadale and would come back through Vidhan Sabha, Peterhof, Advanced Studies, Summer Hill Chowk and back to Oak Over, Raj Bhawan, St.Bedes Chowk and to Indus hospital. The 25 kilometers long run would turn left up to Jakhoo Temple and return towards Indus, IGMC, Lakkar Bazar and would finish at Police control room.

13 kilometers long run would also start at the same time and venue down towards Annadale and up back to Peterhof, Summer Hill Chowk and would finish at Police control room.

The 6 kilometers run would start at 7 AM from the Ashiana restaurant down to Vidhan Sabha and back towards Peterhof and would finish at the Ridge.

The Director said the run was started in year 2009 and it would be 9th Shimla running and living marathon run being organized in Shimla.

ADM Shimla Shri Hemris Negi and officers of Health, Police, Home and Youth Services and Sports attended the meeting.


Committee constituted to evaluate report for Skill University

The State Government has constituted a departmental committee to evaluate the compliance report submitted by the Maa Saraswati Educational Trust of Kala Amb in Sirmour district for setting up Skill University in the State.

 The committee consists of Director of Higher Education as Chairman, nominee of Vice Chancellor  HP University, Director of Health &  Family Welfare, Registrar, HP Technical University Hamirpur, three subject experts from HPU and HPTU as members, SDM Nahan or his nominee, Executive Engineer HPPWD Nahan as Member and Joint Director (Colleges) DHE HP as Member Secretary.

 The Committee will submit its report/observations and recommendations within one month.


HPTDC earns profit of Rs. 682 lakh upto August, 2017

The 150th meeting of Board of Directors (BoD) of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) was held here today under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh. 

The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts made by the employees of the Corporation for making it financially viable and asked them to continue their endeavors for improving its performance further.  

He said that extra efforts should be made for maintaining the properties of the HPTDC so that the visitors may carry the first hand impression of hospitality of the state. Tourism was an important sector of any State as it an added source of generating revenue, therefore the staff needs to be courteous, humble and  soft while dealing with the visitors, provided, those travelling in the HPTDC buses should be dealt with politely, said the Chief Minister.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said he was happy to learn that the Corporation earned net profit of Rs. 682.27 lakh during current financial year upto August, 2017.

The Board also approved bonus, regularization of daily waged workers and promotion of the employees of the Corporation.

He said we need to capitalize on the natural bounty and particularly the religious and adventure tourism in Himachal. We have abundance scenic beauty and one of the best ski slopes and paragliding sites which needs to be exploited to its full potential, said the Chief Minister. Apart from this, rural and religious tourism needs to be promoted in a big way which will be a source of self employment opportunities to the youth.

Managing Director HPTDC Shri Dinesh Malhotra informed that up-gradation of existing properties is necessary for the Corporation to compete in the market and will help to attract more tourists. He said that it had spent about Rs. 45 crore for renovation, repair and refurbishment of HPTDC properties during this period.

He said 733 employees were promoted and services of 200 employees were regularized during last four and a half years.

Pharka, Members of  Board  of the Directors HPTDC Shri Surinder Sethi, Shri Virender Dharmani, Shri Rupesh Kanwal, Shri Vijay Inder Karan, Shri Gopal Krishan Mahant, Shri Amarjeet Singh and  Special Secretary (Finance)  Shri Hans Raj,  were also present in the meeting.
