Chandigarh, October 12:   Rotary Club Chandigarh dispatched 4000 sweet boxes with Diwali greetings for jawans posted on borders, informed the club President Rtn P S Matharoo.

Member Parliament Mrs Kirron Kher flagged off the truck load of sweets at a formal function in the Rotary Club Chandigarh at sector 18 Chandigarh.

The consignment of Diwali greetings will be airlifted to Leh in two sorties for distribution amongst army men at border posts.

This is the second time Rotary Club Chandigarh is doing this project of conveying gratitude to our army personals.

This idea was conceived  last year by Mrs Usha Saboo, wife of Past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo, who said that “they give their lives for us we should at least give our thanks to them this Diwali” ("Woh hamare liye jaan de sakte hain, to kya hum unko Diwali ki mithai nahi de sakte?).

The gesture was very well appreciated by the soldiers and they had conveyed their thanks also.

PDG Kawal Bedi who is the chairperson of the project informed the press that the club members came together and generously contributed to make the festival more meaningful.

She thanked all the generous Rotarians and friends who have contributed large heartedly for this cause. She also thanked M/s Gopal sweets for especially making the required sweets in record time.

Mrs Kher appreciated the efforts of Rotary Club Chandigarh for this thoughtful gesture.

The club has undertaken a large number of projects under the guidance of Mr Saboo which includes the medical missions to various countries, Rotary blood resource centre, Heart surgeries of poor patients, Rotary vocational training center and a number of project covering health, education, peace and good will.
