Haryana Government to adopt various measures to stress the importance of economy in use of paper in State

Chandigarh Oct 12- Haryana Government has decided to adopt various measures to stress the importance of economy in use of paper in State Government offices, conservation of energy and environment.
While giving this information here today, an official spokesman said that notes should be typed or written on both sides of the paper and typing should be done in single space. He said that policy instructions or guidelines issued through Orders, OMs should be uploaded on the official website of the Ministry or Department or Organization concerned. Number of hard copies of such communications should be limited to the required minimum and office copies should not be typed again where the draft itself is legible and does not contain many corrections.
He said that full compliance of these instructions in true letter and spirit, thereby will save paper, environment and energy. Injudicious use of paper not only leads to infructuous but also impacts the environment as tees are major source of paper pulp production.
He said that some surprising facts about paper usage are; around the world we use about one million tons of paper everyday and 93 per cent of paper comes from trees alone which we can call as virgin paper, producing one ton of paper requires two- three times its weight in trees and paper also accounts for half of municipal solid waste.
Making of paper from recycled content rather than virgin fiber creates 74 per cent less air pollution and 35 per cent less waste pollution, it uses more water to produce a ton of product than any other industry, it is one of the world’s major greenhouse gas emitters and crores of trees are cut down annually for virgin paper used for production of books in the India alone and this figure is huge, he added.
A letter to this effect has been issued today by Chief Secretary Office.
