Chandigarh,07.11.17-On National Cancer Awareness Day, the Department of Radiotherapy, REGIONAL CANCER CENTRE, PGIMER, Chandigarh organized a rally to spread awareness. The staff and students of this department put up posters for general public, informing about the risk factors, early symptoms and the importance of early detection. In order to draw attention of people passing by, giant puppets were used with messages like ‘Cancer can be cured’ and ‘Smoking causes cancer’. The rally went around the campus of the institute, stopping at different OPDs and distributed pamphlets with details of screening for breast and cervical cancers. Since both these diseases can be detected at a very early stage and cured, spreading this information may help the common man on the street to stop and think. Considering that breast cancer is so high in this region, spreading awareness is the need of the hour.

The department proposes to run awareness campaign throughout this week at different educational institutes in the tri-city.
