Chandigarh,14.11.17-The Postgraduate Department of Sociology at MCM DAV College for Women, in collaboration with State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) Chandigarh, organised a Cycle Rally as an extension of the 'Connecting to Serve' initiative of SLSA. Flagged off by Hon'ble Justice Mr.Surya Kant, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, SLSA, the rally aimed at generating awareness among general public about their legal rights. Mr.Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, SLSA Chandigarh, Mr.Amrinder Sharma, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chandigarh, Mr.V.K.Kapoor, Retd.DGP, Haryana and Coordinator, National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and Mr.Rajeshwar Singh, Law Officer, DLSA were also present on the occasion.

Citing the fact that a large section of society is suffering from social and economic disability because of lack of knowledge or resources to seek legal aid, Justice Surya Kant informed that the National Awareness Campaign has been conceptualised to reach out to marginalised sections of the society for bringing about legal and social justice. Justice Surya Kant motivated the youth to wholeheartedly participate in this campaign as they have a crucial role to play for ensuring inclusive growth and social justice. 

Lauding this endeavour of Sociology department, college Principal Dr.NishaBhargava said that legal awareness is the need of the  hour and the determination and commitment of youth is of paramount importance in bringing about a positive change in the society in this regard.
