Chandigarh,03.12.17-World AIDS Day was celebrated by the Rural Health training Centre (RHTC),Naraingarh, Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh at  Health sub-centre in Lalpur village, Ambala, Haryana. The resource persons were Dr.Kathirvel S., Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh,Dr.NonitaDhirar, Senior Resident, Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Dr.ShuchiMahajan, Junior Resident, Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER.

The audience comprised of Multipurpose Health workers, ASHA workers and the community members in the area of sub-Centre Lalpur. These are the key health personnel involved in the prevention and control of diseases and routine healthcare service delivery at the community level. Dr.Nonita began the health education session with an introduction to theme of World AIDS day. The audience were asked about their knowledge and perceptions regarding the modes of transmission of AIDS. This was followed by a detailed description of the causes, symptoms, prevention and control of HIV/AIDS by Dr.Shuchi. She explained the routes of transmission, the methods of prevention and the stigma attached to the disease. She also told about the availability of free medications for people living with HIV/AIDS under the National AIDS control program. Dr.Kathirvel S sensitized the audience regarding the right to health of patients suffering from the disease and their right to equal status in the society. He reminded the health workers of their potential role in removing the stigma associated with the disease and spreading awareness regarding its prevention. The audience raised many queries and the resource persons answered them. The session concluded with a vote of thanks.
