Chandigarh,03.12.17-Mines Safety Week 2017 for Ghaziabad region was observed under the aegis of Directorate General of Mines Safety comes under the Ministry of Labour and Employment from 25th November, 2017 to 1st December, 2017. The Final day function and Prize distribution ceremony of the same was held on 2nd December, 2017 at Hotel Shivalik View, Chandigarh.Sh. M. Satyamurty, Director General of Mines Safety (Officiating), Northern Zone and Director of Mines Safety, Ghaziabad region has graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Other guests of honour present during the ceremony were Sh. Aftab Ahmad, Dy. Director of Mines Safety, Ghaziabad region, Sh. Joginder Seru, Unit Head, Baga Cement Works (HP), M/s UltraTech Cement Limited and Sh. Amit Dubey, AVP (Mines), UltraTech Cement Limited, Baga (HP).

During Mines Safety Week all participating mines were inspected by different teams formed by the DGMS, Ghaziabad comprising of Mine Managers and Technical experts. This safety week is being celebrated by the Mines Safety Week Organising committee. Baga Cement Works (HP), M/s UltraTech Cement Limitedwas accorded the responsibility for organising all activities for Mines Safety Week Celebration and for hosting the Final Day Function and award distribution ceremony.

More than 100 mines from 5 states namely Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir ranging from highly mechanised mines of large cement plants in HP & J&K, marble mines in Alwar area (Rajasthan), mechanised and semi mechanised stone mines of Bharatpur (Rajasthan) & CharkhiDadri, Bhiwani, Narnaul area in Haryana  to small manual mines in different states were participated in the celebrations and inspections were done for judging the mines for awareness and standards of safety, scientific mining methods, pollution control measures, provisions as per application statutes of Government of India and initiatives to keep swachha Mine and swachha workplace to contribute in Swachha Bharat Mission. 6 Inspection teams have tirelessly travelled for thousands of kilometres for inspecting the mines and completed the most difficult task wonderfully.

Trades test were also conducted for different regions at Paonta Sahib in HP on 10th Sept, 2017, at Shrinagar in J&K on 27th Sept, 2017, at Alwar in Rajsthan on 24th Sept, 2017, at Bharatpur  on  7th Oct, 2017 and at CharkhiDadri in Haryana on 24th Oct, 2017 for various tradesmen and operatives of all mines to judge their operating/technical skills and awareness about safety. Winners were awarded at the end of tests. A final trade test was also conducted in Chandigarh on 2nd Dec, 2017 amongst the winners of different region and the winners were awarded during the prize distribution ceremony. More than 170 awards were given to the winners in five categories.

In highly mechanised mines categoryBagaBhalag limestone Mines of M/s UltraTech Cement Limited has won the First prize in overall performance. Gagal Limestone mine of M/s ACC Limited has won the Second prize and Kashlog limestone Mine of M/s Ambuja Cement Limited won third prize for overall performance.

Baldhawa Limestone Mine of M/s JST, Sangrah Limestone Mine of M/s V.K. Walia, AgawaliSilika Sand mine of M/s Sivalik silica and Bhakrija Plot No. 2 Mine of Narnaul area stood First in overall performance in their respective category.

More than 200 persons including Govt. officials, mine owners, mine managers, officers & staff and operatives from different mines have attended the pre night gathering and musical evening by Himachali artists on 1st December and Prize distribution ceremony on 2nd December and enjoyed the function at the fullest.

Various Safety equipment suppliers, Heavy Earth Moving Equipment manufacturers and suppliers, lighting towers manufactures and cement industries like Honeywell, UltraTech Cement, Doosan Towers, Larsen & Toubro Limited and TIPL has displayed their exhibition during the program.

The wonderful event was concluded with the Vote of thanks by Sh. Chandrakant Dhandale, HOD (Mines), Baga Cement Works (HP).
