BAKERY COMPETITION ORGANIZED BY Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management Catering and NutritionON THE EVE OF LOHRI

Chandigarh, 12th January 2018-Lighting of the fire in the winter solstice , the delightful revaris & popcorn , the colourful Punjabi attire and most importantly the cheer among all was the sight at Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management Catering and Nutrition, Sector 42 D, Chandigarh  as students, staff and faculty gathered around flaming Bonfire on Friday  evening to celebrate the harvest festival of Lohri.


Spectacular invitation prepared in the form of Dhols, a traditional instrument used during the festival. The bonfire was lit to seek the blessings of the Sun God. The whole college faculty made their presence felt in this auspicious festival. Thereafter, the function started with speeches in English and Punjabi highlighting the relevance of Lohri, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter, followed by a series of fun filled games organized by the students along with Bhangra and Giddha folk dance performances exhibiting the rich culture of Punjab. Moreover, crunchy and toothsome snacks were also served to all present for the occasion.

On this occasion, Mrs Bharti Tyagi, Principal said, “ Lohri brings us together in the warmth of the bonfire in this nippy winter. Lohri is an occasion to rejoice with each other and share some merry moments.”

The day also witnessed delightful items that were made in the Bakery Competition, which was organized for the third year students of the Institute where Avreet Singh stood first.  The students of the college were judged by the eminent judges from the culinary milieu on their artistry, presentation, and for the taste of their creations by Chef Rohit from Oberoi’s Sukhvilas and Pastry Chef Gautam from Hyatt Regency Chandigarh. Some of the exquisite and lip smacking bakery products prepared by the students were Rafaello Cake, Baileys Irish Tarts, Lemon curd Meringue Cake, Macaroons with milk cream etc.

The winners for the bakery competition were as follows

            1st prize          Avreet Singh           

2nd prize         Aman Kumar Singh Sengar         

3rd prize         Eashita Bhardwaj   


“Such events provide the students the opportunity to display their skills which they have acquired with their hard work and dedication during the years in the institute. I am elated with the performances and the results. I believe these students will shine and make a mark in the competitive professional world” said Pastry Chef Gautam, one of the judges of the event.
