Chandigarh,13.01.18-Department of Forest & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration in association with an NGO-Yuvsatta have decided to regularly organize this cycling activity behind Sukhna Lake to promote spirit of green living, good health and green Chandigarh’, shared Santosh Kumar, Director, Department of Environment, Forest & Wildlife of Chandigarh Administration.

 Appreciating the initiative Justice Surya Kant said that the biggest problem in Chandigarh today is proliferation of vehicles. It’s high time to decide how many vehicles can be accommodated in this city. Chandigarh is a busy place. People need to travel, but most people can travel and move easily under their own power i.e. by Cycling and Walking, both are cheap, quick, quiet and clean. He also added that the universal concerns of global warming require local action to curb increasing pollution, for which rising number of vehicles is one of the major cause. And bicycle can prove to be new gandhian spinning wheel to save billions of dollars spent every year on procurement of oil, to promote a simple lifestyle, check traffic blues, accidental deaths and also the deterioration in physical health of the people because of sedimentary life-style.

Later Kulbhushan Kanwar an environmentalist shared about the rich flora and fauna of the region with participants. Supreet of CATS added that one can enjoy easy and relaxed cycling and see hundreds of migratory birds in this area, perfect for families or those simply wishing to enjoy a leisurely ride. 

Students of New Public School led by international level basketball player Amit Hooda also presented ‘Bhagwad Gita as explained by Mahatma Gandhi to the Chief Guest Mr. Justice Surya Kant.

Prominent amongst those who participated in today’s event included Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta, Supreet of CATS, Aman of Young Links-a youth group of Himachal Pradesh, Sanjeev Kumar Verma, State Coordinator of PCRA (Petroleum Conservation and Research Association), Harjinder Singh Talwar of Talwar Dairy.
