Chandigarh,17.01.18-School of Public Health (SPH), PGIMER in partnership with Education and Health Department Chandigarh, Administration and supported by Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi is  implementing a project on “Assessment for Accreditation of schools as Health Promoting Schools  since 2016.The objective of the project includesassessment and classification of schools in U.T. Chandigarh as platinum, gold, silver and bronze and second objective  to compare the health profile of students of higher accreditation schools with lower accreditation schools for a period of 2 years (2016-2018). Chandigarh has become the first U.T in the country to undergo accreditation of all schools as HPS. As per baseline assessment undertaken in 2016-2017.Fifteen (13%) government and 9 (12%) private schools lie with in bronze category. Five (4.5 %) government and 4 (5%) private schools has been accredited as silver level. Only 1 school has been accredited as gold level. There was no significant difference in accreditation level between different school categories. The schools are working for self improvement with technical support from PGIMER

 As a part of  implementation  a workshop on “Reorientation of Principals on Accreditation of Schools as Health Promoting Schools” is being conducted on 18thJanuary 2018 from 79- 4 pm at National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER. The workshop will have key resource persons from PGIMER, ICMR, Education and Health department and Quality Council of India. The expected outcome of workshop will be data dissemination of Phase –I and action plans for further improvement of the schools as Health Promoting Schools (HPS) so that they can improve on reassessment schedule in the middle of this year.Mr BL Sharma, Education Secretary, Sh. Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director School Education,Prof Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER, Dr G Dewan ,Director, Health Services,Ms Vidhi Gupta QCI -NABET has been invited to grace the inaugural function.
