A Unique Social & Patriotic Gesture by PGI Security Staff to Celebrate the Republic Day as well as Netaji Subhash Chander Bose Jayanti.

 More than 500 donated blood and 57 pledged for Organ Donation

 Chandgarh,24.01.18-Today on 24th January, 2018 on the eve of Republic Day as well as Netaji Subhash Chander Bose Jayanti, the Security Wing of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh organized 15th Blood Donation Camp at Zakir Hall, Near Bhargava Auditorium, PGI, Chandigarh. The camp was inaugurated by Shri. Ram Bilas Sharma, Hon’ble Education Minister, Haryana and was conducted by a team of doctors from the Department of Blood Transfusion PGI. Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, Sh. Amitabh Avasthi, DDA, PGI, Kumar Abhey, Financial Advisor, PGI, Dr. Ashok Kumar, DMS, Dr. Vipin Kaushal, Acting MS PGI and Nodal Officer ROTTO (Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization), Sh. Ram Gopal Garg (IPS), Superintendent of Police CBI/ACB, Chandigarh, Dr. G.Dewan, Director General Health, U.T, Dr. K.K.Sharma (IPS), DGP, Haryana, Sh. P.K. Mishra, DGM, SBI and senior officers of CISF and Punjab Police were the senior dignitaries who graced the occasion to motivate and appreciate the donors. The camp was conducted under the supervision of Sh. P.C. Sharma, Chief Security Officer, PGI and the officers and staff of Security Wing. More than 700 volunteers from various freternity i.e. Doctors, Nurses, Technicians, Students, Security Personnel and officials from CBI, Punjab Police & CISF participated in this camp. To boost the morale of donors, Sh. P.C. Sharma, Chief Security Officer, Officers of Security Wing and the senior police officials including Superintendent of Police, CBI, ACB Chandigarh and Commandant CISF were among the few donors who came forward to donate blood on this occasion. The donors were offered refreshment of tea, coffee, cold drinks, milk, juice and seasonal fruits. The donors were presented Mementos which were sponsored by SBI Medical Institute branch, Chandigarh and gifts which were sponsored by Trident India Group. During this camp, more than 500 volunteers donated blood and 57 personnel pledge for their organ donation.

            The Hon’ble Education Minister, Haryana and Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGI met with the volunteers and appreciated the efforts of Security Department of the Institute as well as ROTTO for this social cause as well as patriotic gesture remembering Great Netaji Subhash Chander Bose in such a way. Encouraged by the response to the initiative, they stated “We are deeply touched by the altruistic spirit of these security personnel who specifically came in large numbers to support the cause. Through their gesture of blood donation and organ pledging, they have demonstrated that ‘security of others’ is not a job for them, they actually live that spirit and have an exemplary courage to give a ‘gift of life’ to others”.
