Chandigarh February 2, 2018
The three day law fest, ARGUENDO’18 based on the theme ‘Lex Semper Triumphi’ began with
a lot of fervour and enthusiasm on 2nd February. The event aims at honing the skills of
budding lawyers and by providing them a rostrum to exhibit their public speaking,
linguistic and creative adroitness.
The day began with the commencement of the 4th UILS National Trial Advocacy Moot Court
Competition, 2018 coordinated by Dr. Jaimala and Dr. Amita Verma. Participants argued
on a proposition based on “Criminal Law including Human Organ Transplant and Narcotic
Laws.” The competition helps the students in whetting their legal acumen. 22 teams from
across the country were registered.
The preliminary rounds were adjudged by the alumni of UILS. The institution preserves a
close relationship with its alumni and has given them an opportunity to interact with
their alma mater. They performed the role of jury and brought back their infield
experience by giving their valuable tips and feedback to the contesting teams. It was
interesting to see the communication between practising and budding lawyers.
An exemplary portrayal of hospitality skills were showcased by enthusiastic students of
UILS in the Fete’18  headed by Dr. Navneet Arora, Dr. Abha Sethi along with the
Department Representatives competing amongst themselves showcasing their
entrepreneurship skills. Varieties of handicrafts, food products, games, music etc.
were stationed for the visitors. Students were quite passionate in creating a festive
atmosphere for the participating teams to ease out the competition stress.
The penultimate day of the law fest entails the other main event i.e. the 7th UILS
National Client Counselling Competition, 2018 coordinated by Dr. Shruti Bedi. The
concept of Client Counselling revolves around student advocates demonstrating their
listening and questioning skills which are indispensible to conduct an effective
interview. The purpose of client counselling is social service that inculcates values
of empathy in lawyers so that their motive is not solely mercenary in nature. The
quarter final and semi-final rounds of the 4th National Trial Advocacy Moot Court
Competition will be held amongst top eight teams adjudged by Senior Advocates of the
Punjab and Haryana High Court and Additional Sessions Judge from the District and
Sessions Court, Chandigarh.
