By-Election Of PU Senate held


The Panjab University, Chandigarh under the Heads of affiliated Arts Colleges Constituency held  election of one Ordinary Fellow,here today.

     Two candidates contested for the same namely Sh Dharam Singh and Sh Rajesh Kumar Mahajan. Sh Mahajan won by getting 44 votes against 25  by Sh Dharam singh.

       The result was declared by Col G S Chadha(Retd), Registrar, PU and the Returning Officer.

PU ENACTUS SECOND AT ASPIRE 2018

       ENACTUS SSBUICET team of Panjab University again brought laurels to the university by bagging Second Runners Up Position in “SAMADHAN”, a Social Case Study held under Aspire 2018, 5th edition of Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology’s (NSIT, Delhi) annual Social Entrepreneurship Convention being held from 10-11th February, 2018. The convention  promises to fuel business acumen and entrepreneurial talent in Enactus students, conveyed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor of Enactus team.

       Initially an online round was held by NSIT, in which more than 100 entries were received, out of which 10 teams were selected to participate during the convention at NSIT campus, Delhi. Enactus SSBUICET team was among the top 10 finalists, as informed by Taranpreet, President of Enactus team. The team members, Nirbhay Aggarwal, Deewakar and Damanpreet participated in the final round and bagged Second Runners Up position. They were awarded certificates, trophy and various coupons. The competiton witnessed participation from various prominent colleges namely Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune, Zakir Husain Delhi College, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (GGSIP), NSIT, to name a few.

Enactus SSBUICET team is currently working on two projects namely UNNATI and SAMBHAV. Through these entrepreneurship based projects, the team targets to uplift the underprivileged communities consisting of unemployed unskilled youth, beggars, housemaids and underprivileged women by providing them with sustainable source of income, informed Sheryl Sarna, Vice president, Enactus team.

       The Enactus team acknowledges whole hearted support provided by Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare, PU and other higher authorities of Panjab University. The team is also grateful to Mr. Farhan Pettiwala, President, ENACTUS India for providing a platform to students of more than 170 teams all over India to do social entrepreneurship projects for the upliftment of underprivileged communities. As one of the largest Enactus country operations, Enactus India is a priority country for the future growth of the organization. Enactus India works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing their skills to become socially responsible business leaders.

Workshop on Human Evolution Concludes at PU

 Workshop on Human Evolution Concludes a four day workshop on Human Evolution concluded with the Valedictory function held here today in the Department of Anthropology.

Prof. Devinder Mehta, Dean, Faculty of Science in his valedictory address related Anthropology with Physics and elaborated in details on Carbon 14 (C14) dating methods which will help us to identify the age of human fossil remains.

According to Prof. Rajan Gaur, Coordinator of the Workshop, 58 delegates from 17 universities/institutes participated and were taken for one day field work to the Siwaliks. Delegates really appreciated the academic content of the workshop which they say will greatly benefit them.

 Industry-Academia Symposium on Medical Devices

        The 4th Symposium of Medical Device Innovation Cluster (MDIC, Chandigarh Region) was held in the Seminar Hall of CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR-IMTECH), Chandigarh, here today. This event was organized by DST-Centre for Policy Research, at Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with CSIR-IMTECH. This Symposium saw the attendance of both industry and academia. More than twenty industries from northern India and esteemed scientists of various CRIKC (Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster) institutes participated in the Symposium.

        Prof. Rupinder Tewari, Panjab University, in his inaugural address, welcomed the dignitaries and shed light on the policies of Government of India on the initiatives to promote the Industry-Academia collaborations.        Dr R.K. Sinha, Director, CSIR-CSIO, asserted how CSIO is one of the leading R&D Centre in the region actively engaged with the industry.       Dr. Arun K. Grover, the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University talked about the achievements of CRIKC in terms of industry-academia collaboration.    

        Dr. Jitender Sharma, CEO, Andhra Pradesh Medical Tech Zone (AMTZ), Vishakhapatnam, in his Key Note address, spoke about the establishment of India’s largest Medical Hub for manufacturing. He underlined the support and encouragement provided by the state as well as central government in the setting up of AMTZ, which is dedicated towards the manufacturing of medical devices. “The glass is never half full, or half empty, it is always half water and half air”, said the young CEO and Advisor on health to the CM of Andhra Pradesh. The hub is ably supported by the GoI by way of establishment of an advanced R&D Centre i.e. KIHT (Kalam Institute of Health Technology).     

        The Guest of Honor Prof. J.S. Rana, Member, Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, expressed his delight over the organization of the event that encourages industry academia collaboration, and keeping the momentum high for this endeavor.

        In the second session of ‘Scientific Talks’ esteemed scientists from academia and researchers from the industrial sector delivered talks and presented their work on medical devices.

A Panel Discussion on ‘Promoting Innovations in Medical Technology’ saw the industrial and academic representatives deliberating on efforts and incentives in place for promoting innovative activity.

An MoU was signed for the promotion of medical device R&D in the region between Andhra Pradesh Medical Tech Zone (AMTZ), Vishakhapatnam and DST-Centre for Policy Research, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

During the Symposium many ‘Innovative Technologies’ developed by the academic and the industrial sector were also showcased.
