CHANDIGARH, FEBRUARY 14:The Punjab Government would celebrate the 550TH Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in 2019 on a grand scale and the central theme of the celebrations would be 'NANAK NAAM CHARHDI KALA, TERE BHAANEY SARBAT DA BHALA'. This decision was taken here today at a high level meeting headed by the Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister, Punjab, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu at Punjab Bhawan. The meeting also saw MLA (Dera Baba Nanak) Mr. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Chief Secretary Mr. Karan Avtar Singh, Secretary Cultural Affairs & Tourism Department Mr. Vikas Pratap, Director Mr. Shivdular Singh Dhillon, Chairman Punjab Kala Parishad Dr. Surjit Patar, Vice Chancellor Punjabi University Patiala Dr. B.S. Ghuman, Vice Chancellor Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar Mr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Mr. Kanwaljit Singh with Mr. Prashant Gautam from Panjab University Chandigarh in attendance.

In a statement after the meeting, the minister said that in a recent meeting held under the leadership of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh it was decided by the state government to celebrate the 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in 2019 on a grand scale and the responsibility of chalking out a comprehensive roadmap regarding this has been entrusted to his department. The minister further said that in today's meeting held as per the directions of the Chief Minister the biggest decision taken was to keep 'NANAK NAAM CHARHDI KALA, TERE BHAANEY SARBAT DA BHALA' as the central theme of the year long celebrations. Divulging more, the minister said that Guru Sahib inspired the message of welfare of all humanity and the state government would propagate the teachings of Guru Sahib in all the corners of the globe through the celebrations.

Disclosing more, Mr. Sidhu said that in today's meeting it was decided to form various committees namely International Outreach Committee, Media and Communications Committee and Resource Mobilisation Committee. The main motive of the committees would be to clean kali bein river and run Swachh Sultanpur Lodhi campaign, holding of seminars in various universities and colleges, literary competitions, painting & photo exhibitions, Establishing Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chair in Univerrsities of Punjab and at any 2 institutions outside the state besides erecting an iconic monument dedicated to the cause of humanity in Punjab.

The minister also elaborated that a World Poetry Festival and World Sacred Music Festival would also be held as part of the celebrations. He further said that the culture of those places would also be given due place in the celebrations which were visited by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Mr. Sidhu further disclosed that a resource mobilization committee would see the inclusion of corporate houses. He also added that in the celebrations SGPC, Sant Samaj, Religious Personalities and institutions and representatives of all political parties would also be included and apart from this the MPs and MLAs of all the political parties would be given place in the various committees. He further informed that a reputed event management company would also be hired to ensure the grand success of these celebrations and the International Outreach Committee would connect the sangat from India and Abroad with these celebrations. A committee to ensure large scale coverage in print and electronic media besides social media would also be constituted. The minister also said that the purpose is to make the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji reach in every nook and corner of the globe and make everybody a part of the celebrations.

Mr. Sidhu also added that the Punjab Government would approach the Prime Minister for constituting a central level committee concerning the celebrations. Apart from this, a written communication would be sent to the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry to connect those places through Guru Nanak Marg which were visited by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He also divulged that the various state governments would also be involved in the celebrations and written communications would also be sent to governments of the other states to hold functions at the places connected with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in their respective states. The minister also disclosed that the Chief Minister has already decided in a meeting that the main function would be held at Sultanpur Lodhi.

Aware farmers for Kharif crop loan repayment to avail subsidy : D.P. Reddy

Punjab extends repayment of Kharif crop loans by March 31

Chandigarh, February 14: With a view to pass the benefits of interest subsidy on crop loans to farmers during the current Rabi season, the state cooperation department has advised its member tillers todeposit their recovery payments by March 31 on such loans taken during Kharif 2017. This offer was made by additional chief secretary cooperation DP Reddy during a state level review meeting of the department here today.

He informed that the members of primary co-operative agriculture societies in Punjab must avail benefits to get the interest subsidy of 3 percent by paying pending their crop loans pertaining to Kharif 2017 and could receive crop loans for current Rabi season besides deposits of debt relief amounts into their accounts.

He asked the field officials of cooperative department and bank employees to aware the members of all coop societies that the debt relief announced by the state government would not be affected due to recovery of their debt because the basis of debt relief scheme was the amount standing in their account by March 31, 2017. "So all the official should reach to the farmers and motivate them to keep and clear their transactions with the societies. Concerned officials also inspire the tillers to become eligible beneficiaries for getting the benefit of subsidies on interest by paying crop loans timely," he stressed.

Present in the meeting Registrar Co-operative Societies Arvinder Singh Bains informed that State government has extended the loan recovery period for repayment of crop loans taken for Kharif in 2017 by March 31 this.

Additional chief secretary cooperation has directed the field officials to work untiringly in the context of debt relief and made their reach to all the members of cooperative societies for recovery of loans and aware them that state government has deposited the debt relief amount into the accounts of eligible members who have paid their dues to the societies timely.

He lauded the efforts of employees as well as member farmers of Moga, Jalandhar, SBS Nagar, Kapurthala and Sangrur districts who have become eligible to avail interest subsidy of 3 percent by depositing their recovery amounts to the societies and banks. During the meeting Reddy asked the concerned officers to quickly develop the mobile application for custom hiring of agricultural equipmentson rent and aware the farmers to shun the stubble/residue burning.

Among others present in the meeting included special secretary cooperation Gaggandeep Singh Brar, managing director Markfed Arshdeep Singh Thind and audit officers, district managers of cooperative banks, joint registrars and deputy registrars from all the districts.
