Chandigarh, February 23, 2018-Government of India is fully committed to protect the interests of the weaker sections, divyangs and SC/STs throughout the country specially to ensure the completion of backlog appointments of SC/STs through proper implementation of reservation policy.  This was stated by Shri Ramdas Athawale, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment today at Chandigarh in a press conference after the review meetings with senior officers of Punjab, Haryana,  UT Chandigarh and Central Government Departments.

 Giving the details of the meetings the Minister expressed his satisfaction on the issue in the region for both states as well as UT Chandigarh and central government offices. He said that SC component plan of the Ministry was 52000 crore rupees in the previous budget which has been increased to 56690 crore rupees in the present budget.  Government has organized over 7000 camps for divyangs for providing information and awareness in the country for their welfare and 9 lakh divyangs have been provided with helping tools and implements. 

He said that four cases of atrocities against SCs were reported in UT Chandigarh from 2015-18. He said that Haryana Government has planned a rehabilitation scheme for the dalit victims of  Mirchpur (Hisar) violence.

           Earlier in the day, the Minister inaugurated a three-day trade fair- Chandigarh ‘ Pragati Ka Maidan’ at Sector-34, Chandigarh organized by (Reserve Category and Minority Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) RCMICCI. About 100 Exhibition-cum-Sale Stalls are put up by the different departments, MSMEs, Startups, Women Enterpreneurs from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, J&K and many other parts of the country.
