            This is for the information of the public in particular that the Panjab University has extended the last date of inviting quotations for the purchase of OMR Answer Sheets for various entrance tests including Environment & Road Safety-2018 from 12th March 2018 to 26th March 2018 till 5:00 p.m. The interested firms are requested to send their quotations according to the terms and conditions by Speed Post/ Registered Post to Assistant Registrar, CET Cell, Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall, Panjab University, Chandigarh on or before the last date.

National Conference on “Bridging the Gap-Biodiversity and Human Health” inaugurated

 Department of Zoology, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organized a two day National Conference entitled “Bridging the Gap-Biodiversity and Human Health” which was inaugurated by Former Director General (ICMR) Prof. N.K. Ganguly here today. 

            Prof. Ganguly in his inaugural address focused on the effects of biodiversity loss and its direct implications on human health.

            Prof. Arun K. Grover, Vice Chancellor, PU in his address said that for a better human health, biodiversity has to be valued, conserved and restored.

            Prof. R. C. Mahajan (Emeritus Professor, Department of Medical Parasitology, PGIMER, Chandigarh), focused on the additional use of various medicinal plants for treatment of various diseases like bacterial diseases, vector-borne diseases, parasitic diseases and viral diseases. He also emphasized that conservation of medicinal plants was important because these are today being lost due to urbanization, overpopulation and climate change.

            Prof. N.K. Ganguly along with Prof. Arun K Grover, Prof. Chitra Mandal, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, PU and Dr. Y. K. Rawal, Organizing Secretary, released the conference abstract book on this occasion.

The conference started with key note lecture by Dr. Chitra Mandal, Distinguished Biotechnology Research Professor & J. C. Bose national Fellow, CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata who shared her views on role of sialic acid and its association with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). She also described Achatinin-H, a lectin molecule for diagnosis of ALL, Prediction of Relapse, Monitoring of treatment control, Individualization of Chemotherapy and interaction of Leishmania donovani through its surface sialoglycoproteins for diagnosis of disease.

Prof. G. P. Sharma oration lecture was delivered by Prof. Ravi Prakash, Emeritus Scientist, Department of Genetics, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak where he pointed out the 4 different species of Drosophila discovered by Prof. G. P. Sharma and his group in the department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He emphasized that there is 75% homology between the Drosophila and Human genome, therefore they have been studied for various molecular mechanisms.

In technical sessions I, Dr. Purnananda Guptasarma (IISER, Mohali) and in Technical Session II, Dr. Ashish Ganguly (IMTECH, Chandigarh) and Dr. S. Sathyakumar (WII, Dehradun) delivered their talks.

 PU Results

The result of M.A. (Music Vocal )  1st Semester Examination, December, 2017 declared on 21/03/2018 and the Pass Percentage comes 89.53%. 86 Candidates appeared and 77 Candidates Passed in the examination. 


The result of M.A. (Music Vocal )  3rd  Semester Examination, December, 2017 declared on 21/03/2018 and the Pass Percentage comes 97.10%. 69 Candidates appeared and 67 Candidates Passed in the examination.
