Chandigarh, March 21: Today, to popularize ‘Solar Chandigarh Campaign’ further, a ‘Solar Power Awareness Camp’ was organized by Chandigarh Renewal Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), Resident Welfare Association of Sector 10 & Yuvsatta-an NGO at Government Museum Hall, Sector 10, Chandigarh. Santosh Kumar, CEO, CREST and Director, Department of Science & Technology was the prominent speaker and Ravinder Singh, Project Director of CREST, vendors of solar power systems and residents of the area also participated.

Welcoming the prominent guests Col. Kulwinder Singh, General Secretary of Residents Welfare Association of Sector 10, shared that they will do their best to promote this campaign for a ‘Solar Chandigarh-Green Chandigarh’, house to house in the area.

Addressing the gathering Santosh Kumar said that there is a great potential of popularizing installation of solar power units on residential houses in Chandigarh. Throughout the city Solar panels can be installed on rooftops to generate electricity. And the power generated can be used to run appliances such as fans, lights and even air conditioners. And after the power generated is used by a consumer, the remaining electricity can be sent to the grid.

Santosh Kumar also shared that they have provided all information related to installation of solar systems online at And a resident just have to upload his information and documents on this site to avail best of services from the vendors of solar systems certified  by Chandigarh Renewal Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). He also added that Chandigarh Administration has already framed by laws for Installation of solar rooftop power plants (SPV) making it compulsory on all residential buildings of one Kanal and above. The last date to comply with the same is May 17, 2018. But to motivate people to adopt this green technology and ‘Go Solar’ on their own, they are going to different localities of the city.

On the occasion manufacturers of ‘Solar Power Systems’ also addressed the queries of residents on easy installation and quick access to loans from banks. The programme ended with facilitations by Santosh Kumar of prominent office bearers of Resident Welfare Association of Sector 10, namely Gen. Amarjit Singh Kahlon, Rtd., President, Dr. Santosh Gupta, Vice President and  and Col. Kulwinder Singh, Rtd., General Secretary of the RWA, Sector 10, Chandigarh .
