 Rs. 1900 crore tourism infrastructure development project for HP

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur disclosed here   today that the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India has approved a tourism infrastructure development project of about Rs. 1900 crores to be funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for development of tourism infrastructure in the urban and rural areas of Himachal Pradesh. 

The Chief Minister said that with the help of this ADB funded project, the state would be able to develop tourism in rural, unexplored areas and improve the infrastructure of the towns and also generate employment for the local youths and showcase Himachal as the best Natural Tourist destination state.

Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism Ram Subhag Singh made a presentation of this project in the Department of Economic Affairs today and informed that the project would be completed in duration of eight years. The project will focus on diversification of tourism to new and rural areas by developing tourism infrastructure, create livelihood and employment opportunities (in themes like rural, adventure and ecotourism) and application of innovative models like incentive based mechanisms for community based tourism activities, augmentation of services like water supply, sewerage, solid waste, skill development related to tourism sector, advertising and marketing etc.

He said that the project would increase tourist satisfaction and encourage repeat visits to the State. It would be one of the finest examples of sustainable tourism in the Himalyan States.

The project will have both hard and soft components and will include beautification of towns, development of unexplored areas, conservation and restoration of heritage buildings, infrastructure development in adventure, eco, rural tourism with emphasis on community participation and employment generation. It will train rural youth to turn as entrepreneur in tourism and allied sectors.

The project has been designed based on the detailed baseline data, study conducted of 324 sites in 12 districts of the state and suggestions obtained from about 90,000 tourists and designed in line with sustainable tourism guideline for Himalayan States.

The Union Ministry of Tourism, Union Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs and Niti Ayog have also supported the project for tourism development in Himachal Pradesh.

The Department of Economic Affairs was satisfied with the performance and progress of the State on the ongoing ADB funded project of about Rs.600 crores.


 CM announces to constitute Board for girl empowerment

  • State will have five Mukhaya Mantri Adarsh Vidhalayas for girl students  

The State Government would soon constitute a Board for welfare and empowerment of girls in the State, so that daughters could excel in their respective field. In addition, out of the 10 Mukhaya Mantri Adarsh Vidhalayas being opened in the State, five would be only for girl students.

This was stated by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while presiding over the ‘Betion Ka Samman’ function organized by Manavi Organization here today.

Jai Ram Thakur said it was unfortunate that even today in our society the birth of a boy was celebrated with great fanfare, but birth of a girl with a gloom and this was due to several social stigma and age old myths. However, it was a matter of satisfaction that situation of Himachal Pradesh was better as compared to other states of the country.

He said that the sex ratio was gradually improving in the State due to efforts of the government and mass awareness. It was the need of the hour to work collectively for the welfare and empowerment of the women to make our society more vibrant and strong.

The Chief Minister said that it becomes the responsibility of each one of us to work for creating mass awareness regarding women empowerment and sensitizing the people regarding equality of girl child. The State government has launched ‘Gudiya Helpline’ and ‘Shakti App’ for safety and empowerment of the women and girls. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was really considerate towards women empowerment and cleanliness campaign, as both these issues were dear to him.

He honoured 24 girls excelling in different field on the occasion. While congratulating the award winning daughters, the Chief Minister wished them all a bright and glorious future.  He also announced Rs 21, 000 each to all 24 award winning girls from his discretionary fund.

The Chief Minister also released a souvenir brought out by the Manvi Organization.

Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said that the successive BJP governments in the State had always been considerate towards the welfare and empowerment of the women. He said that today both Defense and Foreign Ministries were headed by women in the Centre, which shows to commitment of Narendra Modi for empowering women in the country.  He said that our culture and civilization gives highest place to women, but unfortunately several social vices crept in. He said that we should work collectively to fight this so that women get equal opportunities to develop and progress for which education of girl child was vital.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Rajiv Saizal said that the State government was committed for the welfare and empowerment of women. He said that the girls were today excelling in all the field of life, but still the decreasing sex ratio was a matter of concern.  He thanked the Chief Minister for initiating various schemes for the safety and security of the women.

National Convener (Sanyojak) ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign Rajinder Phardke said that the union government was working towards empowerment of women. He said that as many as 147 welfare schemes were being launched for women empowerment in various fields including education, healthcare, self-employment, and others. He also urged the social organizations and NGOs to come forward to check social vices such as female feticide and sex determination tests.

Former Member of Parliament Vimla Kashyap Sood detailed various activities of the organizations on the occasion.

A colourful cultural programme was held on the occasion by the school students.

Wife of the Chief Minister Dr. Sadhna Thakur, Urban Development Minister Sarveen Chaudhary, Mayor Kusum Sedrate, Chairperson, Manvi Organization Kanta Manocha, President, Dr. Kusum Sharma were also present on the occasion among others


 MoU for operating free air ambulance service signed

Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur said that State Government would implement 'Ayushman Bharat' health programme in all Sub Centres by converting into Health and Wellness Centres and health protection cover of Rs. five lakh would be provided to the poor people.

He was speaking on the occasion of signing of MoU for operating 'Free Air Ambulance Service' with the State Government, Helimission Foundation Switzerland and Lady Willington Hospital Manali, here today.

Chief Minister while thanking the Helimission Foundation Switzerland for their proposal to start free air ambulance service in the State with Lady Willington Hospital, Manali as mediator for this much needed service said that this air ambulance service would cover the entire State to lift the patients to the nearest health institute and would be operational in close collaboration with the 108 ambulances services.

He said that the State Government would provide all necessary infrastructure including space for residences of the human resources, landing and upkeeping of the helicopter.

He said that the State Government is committed to provide better health facilities to the people of the State at their door steps. He said that Rs. 2302 crore has been allocated for health sector during the current financial year which was Rs. 582 crore more than the previous year's allocation.

Additional Chief Secretary Health Shri B.K. Aggarwal welcomed the Chief Minister.

International Director, Helimission Foundation Switzerland Shri Simon Tanner said that the Foundation was working in this field for the last 47 years.

Education Minister Shri Suresh Bhardwaj, Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Dr. Shrikant Baldi and other senior officers were present on the occasion among others.
