Chandigarh, June 23 –The Haryana Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, has asked the candidates from Haryana who passed the Civil Services Examination 2017 to make service of the people their motto, provide good governance, and help them realize their aspirations.

Prof Solanki was speaking at the Samman Samaroh organised by the District Administration, Gurugram, and Shri Mata Sheetla Devi Shrine Board to honour the candidates from Haryana who passed the Civil Services Examination 2017, in Gurugram, today.

The Governor said they would get powers when they assumed charge of their respective positions. But when people come to them with their grievances, they should work to the best of their ability to fulfill their aspirations.

Giving the message to service of people to the newly selected candidates, the Governor laid emphasis on five ‘As’ which stand for ‘Aastha’, ‘Atam Sanyam’, ‘Aatmiyata’, ‘Atam Vishwas’ and ‘Adyatmikta’, and said they should follow these principles in their lives to provide good governance to people.

Recalling the words of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who described the civil servants as the steel frame of government machinery, Prof Solanki said civil servants ought to have four ‘Cs’ which stand for Calibre, Capacity, Conduct and Character.

By passing the Civil Services Examination, the candidates have proved their calibre and capacity, but now they would have to prove their character and conduct through their dealings with people, he added.

Haryana accounts for about two per cent of the total population of the country but 49 candidates from the state have passed the Civil Services Examination which works out to five per cent of the selected candidates. These include three among the five toppers in the examination.

The State Election Commissioner, Mr. Dalip Singh, and Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram, Mr. Vinay Pratap Singh, also spoke on this occasion.
