Entrance test for B.Ed. in Colleges of Education at PU
Panjab University has made all the arrangements for the B.Ed. entrance test to
be held on 14/07/2018 (Saturday) from 10.30 am to 1.00pm for admission in colleges of
education located in Chandigarh only. In total, 799 candidates have applied for
available 270 seats of B.Ed. in colleges of education of Chandigarh. Candidates can
download their Roll Numbers from 11th July, 2018 onwards. The examination centres will
be in Panjab University Campus only.
Interested candidates who have not applied till now, can apply with late fee
by visiting computer centre of Panjab University on 11th and 12th July, 2018.

Plantation Drive at PU

A plantation drive was organized today by Horticulture Division of Panjab
University near International Hostel in its South Campus. Sh. Davesh Moudgil, Mayor,
Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He planted a sapling which was
followed by other dignitaries present. The Mayor appreciated the efforts and further
said that he will be more than willing to be part of such initiatives in future.

Prof. Nishtha Jaswal, Dean of University Instruction, encouraged the people
to come forward to contribute their bit in the conservation of environment. Col. G.S.
Chadha, Registrar, appreciating the efforts, said that the success of such events
shows the concern of the people and youth in particular towards the environment.

Mrs. Radhika Anand, CEO & Founder, Plantology, a self funded organization and
an alumnus of Panjab University donated about 1100 plants for this event. Plantology
has been associated with such green initiatives in the past and has planted about
2,30,000 saplings in 14 states. Mrs. Anand interacted with NSS and NCC volunteers and
appreciated their efforts.
Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (Hort.), Panjab University apprised the
Mayor and all those present that the Horticulture Division of Panjab University is
always striving to make the Campus greener and cleaner and this drive is a humble step
in this direction. He further stated that the Plantation Day has been organized for
the first time in Panjab University and due to the overwhelming response it has
received, the Plantation Day will be organised on 10th of July every year to
commemorate the beginning of new session.
Plants such as Amaltas, Cassia Nodosa, Bottle Brush, Behera, Ashoka, Gulmohar,
Lagerstroemia Speciosa were planted. First year students of University Institute of
Hotel Management & Tourism, who have been in the University for attending their
classes on first day under the able guidance of their Director, Dr. Prashant Kumar
Gautam and other teachers also planted saplings. About 200 NCC and NSS Volunteers also
participated in the event.

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Kamal Jit Singh, Chair Professor Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair,
Panjab University, Prof. Anil Monga, Dean of Alumni Relations, Panjab University and
Col. G.S. Chadha (Retd.), Registrar, Panjab University were the Guests of Honour.
Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Neena Capalash, Dean Student
Welfare(W), Prof. Ranjan Kumar, Associate Dean Student Welfare, Dr. Ashwani Koul,
Chief of University Security, Mrs. Renuka B Salwan, Director Public Relations, Mrs.
Navdeep Sharma, Co-ordinator NSS, Sh. Jatinder Moudgil, Manager Press, Er. R.K. Rai,
Executive Engineer & Ar. Harpreet Singh, Architect of Panjab University also graced
the occasion. Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff, Wardens, retired Teaching & Non-teaching
employees, Alumni of Panjab University, volunteers of NSS attended the event in large
numbers. Hundreds of NCC Cadets came in their uniform to signify the National concern
associated with the event.

The Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh
organised today its opening academic sessions special lecture for the students of
M.A. in Comparative study of Religion on the topic: Religious study : Present trends.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Chairman of Religious
Studies, Department of Punjabi University, Patiala. The prominent scholar explained
the need to study religion scientifically in the present scenario. He also focussed on
the point that to understand religion one’s own religious experience plays an
important role in it.

AGM of CRIKC held at PU

Annual General Body meeting of Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge
Cluster (CRIKC) was held at Panjab University, Chandigarh on July 9, 2018 which was
presided over by Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor(VC), Panjab University.
The meeting was conducted by Prof. M M Gupta, Coordinator CRIKC. He began the
meeting by giving a brief genesis of CRIKC and calling it the “brain child” of VC. He
had been the thrust of CRIKC and his vision has been brought to reality by Prof. Manoj
Arora (Vice President, CRIKC) and the two coordinators: Prof. M.M. Gupta and Prof.
S.K. Mehta.
Prof. A.K. Grover proposed the idea of fabricating CRIKC ID cards for all
CRIKC members. This would enable the students and teachers to freely access all the
libraries in Chandigarh region. This idea is a big step in amalgamating the
intellectual banks and strengthening the Chandigarh region innovative and knowledge
cluster. This idea was well taken and seconded by Mr. Jivesh Bansal, Deputy Librarian,
Panjab University.
Prof. S.K. Mehta, Coordinator, CRIKC highlighted the programmes conducted
under the banner of CRIKC in the last year. He elaborated upon the various conferences
and workshops being held under the aegis of CRIKC for the benefit of students and
staff. It was informed that the next PU VC will automatically become the President of
CRIKC according to the rules and regulations of the Body.
Dr. Deepak Salunke, Treasurer, CRIKC, delineated the financial outlines of
CRIKC. Further, Prof. Manoj Arora highlighted the aim of foundation of CRIKC to
initiate the international incubator corridor in collaboration with the University of
Nottingham, United Kingdom. He urged the members of CRIKC to work in a structured
manner and proposed to form smaller communities with set short term targets for faster
and efficient results.
The meeting concluded with a healthy discussion among the young members of
CRIKC shooting their ideas, all working together to cater the goal for a better and
improved CRIKC. Prof. Ramanjeet Kaur Johal, Director, Research Promotion Cell, Panjab
University; Dr Rupinder Tewari, Coordinator, DST- Centre of Policy Research; Prof.
Javed N. Agrewala, IIT Ropar and Prof. O.P. Katare also gave meaningful insights about
CRIKC and gave their learned opinions in order to make CRIKC an internationally
recognized society.

University Business School(UBS), Panjab University, Chandigarh organised the
induction program was organised for the MBA/MBA(IB)/MBA(HR)-Ist Year (Academic Session
2018 2019 Batch). Mr Sudhir Kant, Former President, Millipore India Private Limited,
Bengaluru was the Chief Guest. Professor R.S. Ghuman, CRRID, Chandigarh was the Guest
of Honour who also inaugurated the newly furnished Seminar Room C by the Batch of 1992
of the UBS.
Professor Deepak Kapur, Chairperson-UBS welcomed the distinguished guests and
presented mementos to them on behalf of faculty and students of UBS.
In his address, Mr Sudhir Kant stressed the importance of attitude, skills and
knowledge in attaining success in the corporate world. He also emphasised the
importance of change, and need for continuous change and adaptation to the changing
technology and other requirements of time.
Professor R.S. Ghuman emphasised the need for continuous development of the
self, positive thinking, and the need to have high aspirations in life. He said that
one should focus more on loving one's work, rather than loving only the organisation
where one works, as it is possible that the organisation where one currently works may
stop loving any of its particular employee one day, for any reason whatsoever. In such
a situation, a person/employee who continuously develops himself in his job and loves
his work may move to another organisation.

Counseling/Interview for Admission to M.Sc.(Human Genomics) 1st semester at PU

The counseling/interview for admission to M.Sc.(Human Genomics) 1st semester
for the session 2018-2019 has been fixed for 23rd July, 2018 at 10.30 a.m. in the
Department cum National Centre for Human Genome Studies and Research (NCHGSR), Panjab
University, Chandigarh. All candidates must report by 09:30 a.m. on the day of
counseling. The candidates are required to bring all the original
certificates/documents and hard copy of online filled admission form at the time of
interview. No separate letter will be issued. No TA/DA will be given.
