Parliamentary Debate Competition held at PU

1st Sh. G.K. Chatrath Memorial UILS Annual Parliamentary Debate Competition, 2018 -‘तर्क प्रबल’ kicked off to a spectacular start on 9th August 2018. This Parliamentary Debate Competition, organized by the Legal Aid Society of University Institute of Legal Studies is an unprecedented event, which provides a great opportunity to the budding debaters to polish their oratory and analytical skills. This National Competition has seen participation from over 30 teams across the country in their full spirits.

Dr. Anmol Rattan Sidhu, Senior Advocate ,applauded the event for being a unique platform for the students to showcase their speaking skills and pressed upon the importance of such events to enhance the practical skills of students for excellence in every field; especially law. Ms. Anu Chatrath, Dean, Faculty of Law, Panjab University; Dr. Rattan Singh, Director of University Institute of Legal Studies and Dr. Meenu Paul, Chairperson, Department of Laws also inspired the students with their enlightening words, and wished them luck for their future endeavours in life. They also praised the event for bolstering the skills and confidence of students, which would be instrumental in their careers.

The preliminary rounds of the event are scheduled on 9th August, 2018 and the event would conclude, with its Valedictory Ceremony on 11th August, 2018

Integrated Amrita Meditation Technique (IAM) was created by world renowned spiritual and humanitarian Sri Mata Amritaanandamayi Devi affectionately called “Amma” by millions throughout the world. IAM is a simple combination of yoga, pranayama and meditation that takes just 20 minutes a day. It is a meditation technique for modern days.

The NSS Program Coordinator, Dr. Navdeep Sharma shared that in its endeavour to reach out youth in Chandigarh, the NSS Unit of Panjab University has hosted the IAM Meditation Session for the students as a way forward to channelize and tap in their energies in positive direction. The session was well attended by around 50 participants from across different faculties. The students were apprised that IAM technique is a synthesis of traditional, time-tested methods suited for the current mental conditions, time-constraints and needs of modern man. Amma’s disciples teach the technique, free of charge, in all parts of the world. The IAM team from Amritappuri (Kerala) who led the session included Shri Narender Ji, Shweta and Sadhna Ji. The students were also acquainted with youth leadership program “AYUDH” OR Amrita Yuva Dharma Dhara is the youth wing of Mata Amritanandamayi Math aiming to use the powerful force of young people to perpetuate natural harmony, social justice, and personal empowerment. The NSS Volunteers Nihal Kaur and Baljit Kaur were the driving force for organizing the event. The NSS Program Officers Dr. Gaurav Gaur and Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat shared that seeing the positive response from students to attend the IAM session more such sessions will be planned in future to cater larger audience.

Seminar at department of Art History and Visual Arts

Kala Älap the Multidisciplinary course and career counselling seminar in the department of art history and Visual Arts was inaugurated by Prof. Shankarji Jha Dean University Instruction(DUI) and Prof Rajat Sandhir.

A group show of 7 women artists was also inaugurated in the Museum of Fine Arts to mark the occasion.

Eminent women artists of the Tricity Anjali Aggarwal, Anupama Dey , Neenu Vij, Vandana Malhotra, Simrita Singh, Shweta , Manmeet Kaur are showcasing their paintings and installation art.

Speaking on the occasion chairperson, Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya stressed on the need of organizing such seminars which was the first of its kind being initiated in the department.

Professor Jha, DUI, PU explained the importance of art and society and applauded the chairman and the department for initiating this interactive seminar.

Speaking on the occasion the Resource Person of the day, Prof. Rajat Sandhir explained the PU website and its quick links along with the student friendly policies.

The students actively participated in the session with their queries promptly answered by Prof. Rajat Sandhir.
