Governor Acharya Devvrat condoles demise of Atal Behari Vajpayee

In his condolence message, the Governor said that Shri Vajpayee was the great son of India in real sense, who, with his simplicity and humility, ruled the hearts of millions of people. He always believed in value based politics and always adhered to it. He said that Shri Vajpayee would always be remembered and respected by the people of the country for his simplicity, humanity and benevolence.

The Governor said that today the country has lost a great personality and a dynamic leader. The services and contributions made by him for the Nation as a politician and Prime Minister will always be remembered.

He said that he had special attachment with Himachal Pradesh and its people and considered the state as his second home. He prayed to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul.


CM mourns sad demise of former PM Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee

Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur has mourned the sad demise of former Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who breathed his last at the AIIMS, New Delhi today. He was 93.

In his condolence message, Chief Minister said that Shri Vajpayee was a statesman and a visionary leader, whose demise is a great loss to the nation. He said that Shri Vajpayee always considered Himachal Pradesh as his second home and has a house at Prini in Kullu district. He said that the people of the State would always miss the benevolence and special attachment of Shri Vajpayee ji with the State and its people as his demise was a personal loss to the State of Himachal Pradesh.

Chief Minister said that the idea to construct Rohtang tunnel connecting landlocked hinterland Lahaul valley with rest of the world was conceived in 1998 by Shri Vajpayee and the project was announced by him on June 3, 2000. He said that this project was nearing completion and would be the biggest gift of Shri Vajpayee to the State.

He said that it was National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee that Himachal Pradesh got special package for industrial development in 2003. He said that this resulted in industrial investment of thousands of crores of Rupees and employment opportunities to lakhs of youth of the State.

Jai Ram Thakur said one of the largest educational programs in the world, 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan' was launched during his Prime Ministership. The program was a product of strong will power of this statesman, he added.

Chief Minister said that it was during the tenure of Shri Vajpayee that the Golden Quadrilateral, the lifeline of trade in India came into being. In addition, 'Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna' (PMGSY) aimed at linking the 5 lakh villages of India to cities by all weather roads, which in particular proved a boon to the hilly states like Himachal Pradesh, he added.

State Cabinet Ministers Mahender Singh, Kishan Kapoor, Suresh Bhardwaj, Anil Sharma, Sarveen Chaudhary, Dr. Ram Lal Markanda, Vipin Singh Parmar, Virender Kanwar, Bikram Singh, Govind Singh and Rajiv Saizal have expressed deep shock over the sad demise of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

In their condolence message the Ministers said that the nation has today lost a great leader and noble soul. They said that this loss cannot be compensated. They said that people of the country and Himachal Pradesh in particular would always remember his contribution to the nation and State. They said that Himachal Pradesh had been a special place for Atal Ji and he always considered it as his own home as he used to come and stay at Prini in Kullu District frequently.

The Ministers had prayed the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.


State Government declares seven days state mourning and two days public holiday

The State Government has declared seven days State Mourning due to the sad demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. National flag would remain to fly at half mast.

The State Government has also declared public holidays for 17th and 18th August, 2018 as a mark of respect and to enable people to pay their last respects to the departed soul.


Governor and Chief Minister pay last respect to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur paid last respects to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his residence where his mortal remains were kept in New Delhi today.

Governor and Chief Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.

Governor said that his death was a great loss to the nation as well as people of Himachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister said that Vajpayee had special attachment with the people of state as he considered Himachal his second home. He had liberally granted funds for the development of state during his tenure as PM, the Chief Minister added.

Earlier Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister also visited AIIMS.
