Chandigarh,23.09.18-Today's main highlight of the program was oration by Dr. K. Vijay Raghavan, an IIT Kanpur alumnus and Padamashree award recipient. He is presently Principal Scientific Advisor to the Govt. of India. He spoke on “Genomics and human health: what could an Indian initiative look like?”. He emphasized on the common origin and shared chemistry of organisms and how organisms are related to each other. He warned that at present humans comprised 98% of vertebrate biomass and thus have great responsibility towards the planet. He was concerned that medical practice currently does not reflect deep understanding of the pathophysiology of disease and India has very few clinician researchers. The patient load in India is extraordinarily high and the greatest challenge is how to analyze the data of disease in Indian Population. He expressed his deep desire that within next decade India would have a national Genome Bio-bank.
