Review meeting held to discuss weather conditions due to heavy rainfall

Chandigarh, 24th September, 2018: Keeping in view the prevailing weather conditions, a review meeting was called by Home Secretary, UT, Chandigarh which was attended by the Secretary Education, SSP, Chandigarh, SSP, Security & Traffic, Chandigarh, Director Public Relations, Chief Engineer U.T Chandigarh and Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation to assess the situation.

As per the weather forecast by the National Weather Forecasting Centre, there will be a significant reduction in rainfall from tomorrow onwards in the Tricity but heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, South Interior Karnatak & Kerala.

A detailed review was done regarding the precautionary measures taken by the various departments to keep track of the situation. The Engineering Department of Administration and Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh was given directions to tackle the problem of potholes, water logging and trees that have fallen on an urgent basis. The Police Department was instructed to deploy more police personnels to regulate traffic lights and manage high volume of traffic during peak hours and heavy rains.

The water gates of Sukhna Lake were opened today after a decade as the water level crossed over the danger mark due to the heavy rain in the catchment area. It is after 10 years that the water level in the reservoir has reached its highest level mark of 1,163 feet. The Engineering Department is constantly watching the water level and once it decreases, the gates are likely to be closed again tonight. The Chandigarh Administration had issued a warning -cum-advisory before opening the gates. The Disaster Management team has also been asked to remain on vigil and monitor the situation constantly.



Chandigarh, 24th September, 2018: The following draft of bye-laws, which the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh proposes to make, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 399 & 90 (5) of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976 as extended to Union Territory, Chandigarh by the Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Act, 1994 (Act No. 45 of 1994), having been approved by the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, as required by sub-section (1) of Section 401 of the Act of the Act ibid are hereby published for information of the persons likely to be affected thereby.

Notice is hereby given that the draft will be taken into consideration by the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, on or after the expiry of period of 10 days from the date of publication of this notification in the Chandigarh Administration Gazette together with any objection or suggestion which may be received by the Secretary Local Government, Chandigarh Administration, (at 4th Floor, Deluxe Building, UT Sectt, Sector-9, Chandigarh) or at email id from any person before the expiry of the period so specified with respect to the draft, namely;-


1.(i) These Bye-Laws may be called the “Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (Tax on Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Lands and Buildings) (Amendment) Bye-Laws, 2018”.

(ii) They shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette.

2.In the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (Tax on Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Lands and Buildings) Bye – Laws 2003, following shall be inserted, namely:

“The following areas shall be included in group and zones in Annexure-1 & Annexure- 3 of Self Assessment scheme attached with the Tax on Commercial, Industrial and Institutional lands and Buildings Bye Laws 2003, under their respective categories:
