Chandigarh,10.10.18-On 10th October, 2018 World Mental Health Day was celebrated in National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh on the theme of “Young people and mental health in a changing world. The occasion was graced by Prof. Jagat Ram, Director PGI; Prof. A. Rajwanshi (Dean, Research). Prof. Ajit Avasthi ( H.O.D. Psychiatry) emphasized on developing the moral values among adolescents and also focused on the preventive measures to be taken by parents and teachers in collaborative manner to control their impulsive acts. Prof. Jagat Ram highlighted the importance of interaction with youth in today’s scenario so that their problems can be solved and Mental Health can be maintained in every aspect. Dr. Sandhya Ghai, Principal, NINE focused on the theme and highlighted about the life of youth and adolescents in changing world. Several activities were done like poster competition, role-play, debate, panel discussion. Movie on the theme “ Udta Punjab” was shown which depicted the ill-effect of substance abuse. Role-play was focused on adolescent’s life i.e. negative and positive aspects in changing world. Further debate was conducted on the topic as internet use boon or curse. In panel discussion, panelists highlighted the basic parameters of adolescents life like cyber-bullying, effects of virtual technologies, use of illicit drugs and alcohol, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, impulsive acts, excessive use of internet and video-games, eating disorders, depression and suicide. Dr. Shubhmohan Singh (Associate Professor) emphasized to remove social stigma related to adolescents mental health issues. In addition, Dr. Abhishek Ghosh (Assistant professor) high lightened effect of illicit drugs and alcohol use on adolscents. In Sarangpur, Daddu Majra Colony & Dhanas Colony, Health Mela was organized and Lecture on the Theme was delivered to school students by Dr. Akhilesh Sharma (Asst. Prof.).
