University, Chandigarh.

Intra Hostel Volley Ball competition was organised in Boys Hostel no.3, Panjab
University, Chandigarh. Prof. Sanjeev Gautam, Warden appreciated the arrangements done
by students and said that apart from studies every student must take part in sports.
The tournament was graced with the presence of Prof. Parminder Singh, Director of
Sports & Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare (DSW). The whole tournament was
under the supervision of experienced judges and students.
Prof. Parminder Singh, Director of Sports appreciated the move to start the
Intra Hostel games regularly, so that communication between hostels become strong and
to utilise the energy of youth in proper way. He also added that this will make student
healthy and away from the drugs mafia. This is also boon to the students who are from
distant states and can't visit their homes in the weekends. DSW said that each hostel
of Panjab University campus should do such activities regularly.

Diwali Fundraiser at PU
The Centre for Human Rights & Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh in
collaboration with an NGO for homeless and destitute “Prabh Aasra” organized a Diwali
fundraiser at Student Centre on 15th October 2018. The event was inaugurated by Mrs.
Navjot Kaur, Director Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh Administration. She
applauded the creative efforts of students of human rights for a noble cause which
would brighten the lives of children admitted at Advanced Pediatric Centre, Chandigarh
and also the inmates of destitute home.
The Chairperson of the Centre, Dr. Namita Gupta explained that the handicrafts
displayed included accessories for Diwali such as diyas, wind chimes and candle stands,
all made out of waste material. The stall put up by team from Prabh Asra was led by
Mrs. Darshan Kaur who was accompanied with Harmanpreet Kaur and Seema, trainees from
their vocational training centre. They displayed a diverse range of creative
handicrafts including soft toys, thal covers, kurtas, candles, jute products, photo
frames etc. Also present on the occasion were Dean Student Welfare Professor
Emmanuel Nahar; Dean Student Welfare (Women) Professor Neena Kaplash, Chairperson,
Department cum Centre of Women Studies Dr. Ameer Sultana and Faculty, Centre for Human
Rights and Duties Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat.
