A project on genome editing of potato by Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Agriculture Science Fund (ICAR-NASF), New Delhi granted to Dr Kashmir Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology,
Panjab University, Chandigarh

Dr Kashmir Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology,
Panjab University, Chandigarh has been granted a project on genome editing of potato by
Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Agriculture Science Fund (ICAR-NASF),
New Delhi. The total cost of project is 1.65 crore and it will be run in collaboration
with CPRI, Shimla and IISER, Trivandrum. Dr Singh will work on designing CRISPR-CAS
mediated gene editing methods to convert the process of meiosis into mitosis for the
generation of true potato seeds. This work will ensure low heterozygosity in potato
seeds and will help farmers to grow true hybrid crop along with low pathogen
infections.

Two Day National Seminar
Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture : Time and Dialogue
School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized two days National
Seminar on Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture : Time and Dialogue, here today.
The session was presided over by Dr. Bhupiner Singh Khaira, Former Dean of Languages,
Punjabi University, Patiala and Dr. Gurpal Singh Sandhu, Dean of Languages, Panjab
University, Chandigarh. Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Former Dean Academics, Punjabi
University, Patiala delivered the Keynote Address. The Chief Guest of the session were
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University Chandigarh and Dr. Gurbhej Singh
Guraya, Secretary Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, Delhi.
Dr. Joga Singh and Dr. Yog Raj from Punjabi University, Patiala presided over
the first session. Dr. Manmohan Singh, IPS, Dr. Parveen Kumar and Dr. Vanita presented
their papers.
Dr. Yog Raj, the Chairperson of School of Punjabi Studies by giving the outline
of the two days National seminar said that the main purpose of the dialogue is to
understand the new challenges in the domain of Punjabi Language, Literature and
Culture.
During the second session, Dr. Gurmeet Singh and Dr. Jaspal Kaur Kaang and Dr.
Rajinderpal Singh Brar presided over the session. Dr. Surjit Singh, Punjabi
University, Patiala, Dr. Darya, GNDU Amritsar and Dr. Ravinder Ravi, Delhi University,
Delhi presented their papers on Punjabi Culture : Time and Dialogue.
