Chandigarh,23.10.18-PGIMER added another feather in its cap by commissioning a new state of art SPECT gamma camera (D-SPECT), a first of its kind in the whole country, to the already existing Nuclear Cardiology facility of nuclear medicine department located in Advanced Cardiac Centre (ACC) of the Institute. Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER opened the facility for regular use today. The equipment will be primarily used in evaluating the patients with cardiac diseases especially coronary artery disease. These studies help the cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons to decide the further treatment modality in a better way.

Dr. Mittal, Head nuclear medicine explained that this new machine will acquire the cardiac studies in significantly less time, providing the better image quality and is more patient friendly thereby resulting in more patients’ throughput. It will lessen the waiting period of the patients considerably and would improve the quality care of the patients coming from far off places to the institute for high quality management.
