Vigilance nabs head constable taking bribe Rs. 30,000

Chandigarh, November 15: State Vigilance Bureau, today nabbed head constable Mukhtiar Singh red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 30,000.

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said HC Mukhtiar Singh posted at STF Ferozepur was nabbed red handed on the complaint of Mangal Singh of village Chapati in Ferozepur district. The Complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused police official was demanding Rs 50,000 to help him in a complaint case and the deal was struck at Rs. 30,000.

After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused HC was arrested on the spot taking bribe of Rs. 30,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. He informed that a case under different sections of prevention of corruption act has been registered against him at VB police station Ferozepur and further investigation was under progress.



Chandigarh, November 15:Sowing of Wheat crop is in full swing in Punjab. Out of 85 lac acres of area which is to be covered under wheat crop, 55 lac acres have already been sown, which is 4% more as compared to sowing last year as on till date.

Disclosing this here today Director Agriculture Jasbir Singh Bains stated that 11844 direct wheat sowing machines had been provided to the farmers on 50% to 80% subsidy, which could sow the wheat crop without tilling. The farmers are taking full advantage of these machines.

He stated that in all 25922 crop residue management machines have been given to the farmers on subsidy during last two months and with the use of these machines farmers would not only save time but also money in sowing the wheat crop. With timely sowing of wheat crop, its productivity is also expected to be higher in this season, he added.





CHANDIGARH, NOVEMBER 15:Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minority Minister has termed the sit-in staged by Shiromani Akali Dal a cheap political stunt to capture media’s attention.

In a press statement released here today Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said that the same party in whose regime administrative discrepancies have been committed in post matric scholarship is now posing themselves as the sympathizer of Dalits. He said that the Congress Government has decided to conduct the audit of the amount released in the name of scholarship by the SAD-BJP Government in order to bring forth the bungling committed by them. He said that in the audit of amount released by the private educational institutes, uptill now amount of Rs. 460 Cr. has been found objectionable. Refuting the acquisition of the Akali Dal on Congress Government for not releasing the scholarship amount, the Minister said that in reality Congress Government has released Rs. 203 Cr. under post matric scholarship in the last 2 years. Mr. Dharamsot also made startling revelation that the post matric scholarship amounting to Rs. 1663.47 Cr. is pending with that GoI for the 2016-17, 2017-18 AND 2018-19. Divulging the break-up of amount, He said that Rs. 719.52 Cr. for the year 2016-17, Rs. 567.55 Cr. for the year 2017-18 and Rs. 376.40 Cr. is pending with a GoI for the year 2018-19.

Mr. Dharamsot said that the Centre Government has released Rs. 327.39 Cr. in this financial year 2018-19 which is due for the financial year 2015-16. He said that in Punjab there are 3606 educational institutes. Out of all these institutes, audit report of 2059 (1898 Private and 161 Government) educational institutes have been received so far. He said that out 1898 private educations institutes the scholarship amount to 920 institutes cannot be disbursed as the audit reports of these institutes is shady. He said that the post matric scholarship amount of Rs. 88 Cr. to the remaining 978 education institutes has already been released. He said that the Government has also sanctioned the amount of Rs. 171 Cr for 302 technical institutes and the bills to release the payment are being deposit in the treasury soon.

The Minister said that the GoI has released Rs. 115.73 Cr. for the year for the year 2017-18. He said that this amount meant for post matric scholarship of 3 lac 94 thousand students was released to 2 thousand Government and Private institutes. The report of which has already submitted to the GoI. The Minister Dharamsot said that if the Akali Government was serious about the issue of Dalit Students then they would have not faced so much harassment and humiliation.

He also said that SAD leaders have no right to stage demonstrations as the pending amount of their tenure 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 has been released by the present government.

He also made it clear that the instructions for transactions with regard to the fees are issued by the Union Government and the state government and various educational institutions have to work in accordance with these. The minister further said that the income certificate for the students has been issued as per the new instructions of the Union Government. According to these instructions only, the management quota has been done away with. Now the scholarship amount would be directly credited into the bank accounts of the students instead of the educational institutions. The minister further added that only the students of that educational institute would be eligible to avail scholarships whose 50 percent SC students (availing scholarship) would clear the exam.


15368462 MT Paddy Procured

Chandigarh, November 15:The Government agencies and private millers have procured 15368462 metric tonnes of Paddy in Punjab till November 14.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesman of the Government of Punjab informed that out of the total procurement from various procurement centres in the State, the Government agencies procured 15272269 MT of paddy while 96193 MT has been procured by the millers.

Giving the details, the spokesman said that PUNGRAIN has procured 5339254 tonnes, MARKFED 3506407 tonnes and PUNSUP procured 3181007 tonnes while Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation procured 1433908 and 1584822 MT paddy respectively. The Centre government agency FCI has procured 226871 MT paddy.



Chandigarh, November 15: State Vigilance Bureau (VB) nabbed a Block Development & Panchayat Officer (BDPO) posted at Lohian, Jalandhar district red handed for accepting bribe of Rs.10,000.

Disclosing this a spokesman of VB Punjab said Gurmeet Singh Kahlon, BDPO was caught red handed on the complaint of Manmohan Singh, Panchayat Secretary (retd.) resident of village Nawan Pind Khalewal, Jalandhar.

Giving details he said the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said BDPO was demanding bribe of Rs. 30,000/- to release a usage certificate (UC) regarding development grant issued to the gram panchayat Nihaluwal and the deal was struck in three installments.

After verifying his complaint the VB team laid a trap and the accused BDPO was caught red handed and Rs.10000 of first installment recovered from him in the presence of two official witnesses. He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation was under progress.


Deputy Registrar & Inspector of Cooperative Society Gurdaspur suspended

Chandigarh, November 15:“The Cooperation Department, Punjab, has ordered the suspension of Deputy Registrar of the Cooperative Society Gurdaspur Bhupinder Singh and Inspector Bhupinder Singh of the Cooperative Society Shahpur Jajan circle over the bribery allegations.” This was disclosed here today in a press communiqué by the Cooperation Minister, Punjab, S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

Divulging the details, S. Randhawa said that the Secretary of the Athwal Multipurpose Agricultural Cooperative Society Mr. Heera Singh had leveled bribery allegations against both the above mentioned officers and had even given an affidavit in this regard. Pursuant to this, the Deputy Registrar Bhupinder Singh was placed under suspension and his headquarter fixed at Headoffice whereas the services of Inspector Bhupinder Singh was also placed under suspension with office of the Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies, Jalandhar fixed as his headquarter. The minister further said that the Deputy Registrar Pathankot has been given the additional charge of Gurdaspur alongwith his current duty.

The Cooperation Minister made it absolutely loud and clear that a policy of zero tolerance towards corruption would be adopted and the guilty officers/employees would be strictly proceeded against. He added that the Cooperation Department is directly linked to the farming sector and no negligence and malpractice or bungling would be tolerated in the department.
