Technical Session on Software Testing and Security Standards
A technical session on Embedded Software Testing, Verification and Validation
was conducted by experts from LDRA software at University Institute of Engineering &
Technology (UIET), Panjab University(PU) under the Centre for Skill Development and
Entrepreneurship (CSDE), PU. The session started with a presentation that consisted of
major security related incidents that have occurred in the areas of avionics, medical
sciences, rail transportation and cyber security. These major incidents include recent
Boeing 737 Max crash, Ariane 5 Flight 501, Patriot Missile Error etc., all of which
occurred due to lack of system testing. This was followed by discussion on safety and
security standards by different organizations like CERT, ISO, IEC in these domains.
Then the features of products capable of performing static analysis including code
review, quality review and design review, dynamic analysis and unit testing were
elaborated. This was followed by a technical demonstration of available software
testing products. The highly interactive session was attended by faculty from UIET as
well as GCET, Jammu. The event was organized by Prof. Harish Kumar, Director, CSDE,
Panjab University.

Students of 3rd year of the University Institute of Legal Studies(UILS),
Panjab University, Nandish Munjal and Prabhmanjot Singh had participated in the UPES
National Mediation Competition conducted by UPES, Dehradun. They were adjudged the
Best Advocate and Client Pair" at the competition. This college is well known for the
quality of competitiveness that they offer in their competitions. But organising their
first ever mediation competition was a dive into uncharted territory and they didn’t
disappoint at all. Teams comprising of highly motivated and intelligent negotiators
from leading law institutes gave our team a good run for our money. Some of the
leading law institutes that participated in this competition were Symbiosis Pune,
Christ University Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad to name a few. This competition was
adjudged by a plethora of top mediators from all over India supported by various
judges from the legal background.
The performance that led to this award wouldn’t have been a reality if it
wasn’t for Dr. Shruti Bedi, Chairperson of the ADR & CCL board of UILS. Her constant
dedication and support for pushing Mediation as an important part of any young
lawyers development rubbed onto them and made them appreciate this really
revolutionary concept. Further, Dr. Rattan Singh, esteemed Director of UILS, having
immense belief in his students nurturing under his tutelage, gave both Nandish and
Prabhmanjot the opportunity to attend this competition and represent UILS at a
national scale.

Department of History in collaboration with ICSSR-NWRC inaugurated second day
of the National Seminar, here today with papers presented on Sheetla Mata, Udasis,
Faguli festival, Mansa devi and many other sacred spaces in northwest region.
Prof Laxman Thakur delivered Hari Ram Gupta Memorial Lecture on, ' Finding the
Elephant in the Desert' and the lecture was presided by Padambhushan Prof.B.N Goswamy
who discussed the hard work and dedication of Prof Hari Ram Gupta.
The guests were introduced by Prof. Anju Suri who also read the report of
the seminar in the valedictory session.
Dr. Yogesh Snehi, Dr Rajni Sahota, Dr. Vikas Rathi and Prof I.D Gaur read
paper the papers on Dargahs, Shaikj Nizamuddin Auliya, Hir and Bash al Asrar.
Dr Dinesh Dua, Chairman (Chairman Pharmexcil) was the Chief Guest in the
Valedictory session and he enumerated the value of artifects and monuments in
connecting the people with their culture.
Prof Surinder Singh delivered the valedictory lecture on title ' Pain of Love
( Soz i Mohabbat) discussing the symbols of love, piety compassion in dargahs in
northwest region.

The Department of Gandhian & Peace Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh
along with Sarvodaya International Trust organised a Lecture-cum-Book Release
function, here today. Dr. Seema Malhotra introduced all the dignitaries to the
audience and also informed about the event.
In the beginning the Book titled “Gandhi: The Soul Warrior” authored by Pascal
Alan Nazareth (Rtd.) Ambassador was released by Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor,
Panjab University, Chandigarh and Justice Pritam Pal, Former Judge Punjab and Haryana
and Former Lokayukta of Haryana State.
Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh
congratulated the author and gave the message that we have to understand Gandhi by
reading in between the lines and motivated the students and research scholars to
improve their writing skills.
On this occasion, Justice Pritam Pal emphasised that God’s biggest gift to us is our
human body and advised everyone to remember that “everything is within you”. To quote
him, he said, “Wherever you go, you take with yourself either a happy or a dull heart,
and accordingly you will create either a heaven or hell of yourself.”
Pascal Alan Nazareth (Rtd.) Ambassador in his talk on “The Global Impact of
Gandhi: The Soul Force Warrior” said that “It is always better to light one candle
than to curse the darkness”. He said, Gandhi was a non-violent militant/warrior who
revolutionised revolution and spiritualised it without bloodshed and hate. Mr Alan
also emphasised on the importance of Gandhi’s Maxim i.e. “He who fears fails.” So, the
first thing for Gandhi in leadership was to get rid of fear. “You stand up and you
fight, don’t worry about the consequences because if you stand up for the truth even
if you die in the struggle, truth can not loose because for Gandhi Truth was God”, he
said. So, by definition your cause will win if you stand up for the truth. He gave
importance to remove hate from the heart of the people.
The Chairperson, Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies & Honorary Director,
Gandhi Bhawan, Dr. Ashu Pasricha, extended her warm thanks to all the invited guests
and the attendees. She emphasised that the values, thoughts and principles espoused by
Gandhiji can guide our planet towards a better future.

Duel Fest (Sports & Holi) Celebrated in the Department of Music, Panjab
University, Chandigarh, here today. (Tuesday). Students, staff & faculty members
participated in this celebration. Celebration started with “Hori Gayan” & “Dance” with
great seasonal fervor. All the students participated in different sports. Arshbir
Singh, Mohnish Arya, Sagar Sharma,
Sarwan Kumar, satvinder Singh, Umesh Kumar, Palak Sood, Gagan Obroi & Maninder Singh
received first prizes in different events.
At the end Chairperson Dr. Neelam Paul & Prof. Saroj Ghosh honoured the
winners & appreciated their sports men spirit, musical & physical fitness.

MHRD presents India's First Leadership Talk Series in association with MIC ,
AICTE and Smart India Hackathon 2019 ,was held on 19th March , 11:30 am and
broadcasted Live on TV and Social Media platforms and was shown Live in Colleges all
across the country, It was shown to almost 300 - 400 students of University Institute
of Engineering & Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh by IIC (Institute
Innovation Counsel) whose president Dr. Renu Vig organised the AV seminar.
The Leadership Talk was about Art Of decision making, by Shri Ajit Doval
National Security Advisor , Govt. of India
Shri Ajit Doval while speaking to the youth of the country shared his adept
views on decision making, He says the difference between easy decisions and tough
decisions is that how the consequences are. If the consequences affect a large no. of
people for a considerable amount of time then it is a tough decision.
He says that communication systems are the backbone of National Security
because its the easiest to infiltrate and penetrate, he adds young minds make
substantial contribution to the national security by giving out of the box ideas.
On life advice he says you are responsible for whatever happens to you, you
are responsible for handling all situations of your life. He praises the youth for
being well informed today but He advices them on their attitude He says how one
identifies themself plays a crucial role in their overall life He has a simple
philosophy he preaches small identity results in a small personality life if you only
think about your self as an individual you are selfish and care about only yourself ,
But if you identify yourself with a bigger platform say your country then you become a
bigger personality if you go further and identify yourself with humanity you become
even bigger.

organized the Alumni meet, here today. The Alumni Meet is conducted in order to
continue ties with the pass out students and celebrate their achievements. The
Chairperson, Dr. Kanwalpreet Kaur welcomed the Alumni for responding to the invitation
and being present for the occasion. She congratulated the Alumni for their
achievements and highlighted the major activities taken place in the institute that
included academic pursuits as well as infrastructure and other facilities that led to
the growth of the institute. The Alumni Coordinator, Dr. Kalpana Thakur, shared the
aims and objectives of the Alumni Association that highlights utilizing rich
experiences of old students of the institute for the benefit and progress of the
institute and providing guidance to the present students in their endeavor for better
employment and higher studies. The Alumni were treated to the scintillating dance and
musical performances. The passout students from the batches 2011 to 2018 were present.
The event was a great success in connecting the alumnus and the present students.
