CHANDIGARH, MARCH 19: The Chief Electoral Officer Dr. S Karuna Raju Tuesday held a meeting with the representatives of various TV Channels to make sure unbiased coverage of all political parties on channels view of Lok Sabha polls.

The CEO, while interacting with representatives of different channels in his office, apprised that the Election Commission of India was committed to conduct fair, transparent and fearless polls for which the Commission had framed rules to provide equal opportunities to all parties. The CEO said that according to the directions of ECI, several teams had been formed to execute such rules in letter and spirit, which were continuously working on assigned tasks.

Dr. Raju impressed upon that TV channels should ensure equal opportunities for all parties and there should be no sentiment in general public that channel was favouring or opposing any party, which could affect the level playing field, said he adding that channels should not carry the political advertisements, which are not approved by the CEO Punjab or ECI.

On the issue of use of pictures of defence personnels by some political parties for electioneering purposes as raised by the Ministry of Defence with the Election Commission of India, Dr. Raju said that ECI had already issued detailed instructions in this regard. He said that the political parties and its leaders had already been apprised not to use pictures of Chiefs of Indian forces, any defence officer/jawan or any picture related to forces for publicity/propaganda/campaign purposes.

The CEO also informed the representatives about the telecast of last 48 hours, exit polls and opinion polls and rules in this regard.
