Nodal officer to be appointed in State to regulate social media in elections

Chief Electoral Officer Devesh Kumar today said that as per the instructions of the State Election Commission of India (ECI), a nodal officer would be appointed in the State to regulate social media used for election campaign to ensure fair elections. Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and related instructions of ECI would apply to the content being posted on the internet, including social media websites by candidates and political parties.

He said that ECI has decided that in case of violation of MCC on social media would be immediately intimated to the concerned grievance officer of the concerned social media platforms/ intermediary under intimidation to the grievance officer of the ECI. Grievance officer of the ECI would examine the matter instantly and after the approval of DG (Media) or at appropriate level in the Commission would write to the grievance officer of the social media platforms/ intermediary to take action as desired by the Commission.
