Chandigarh, September 16: Today, celebrating World Ozene Day, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration along with Government Home Science College and NGO- Yuvsatta organized an Inter-College Art Fest on theme of ‘32 Years and Healing’. Mr. Debendra Dalai, Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Welcoming the Chief Guest and participants Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of Government Home Science College said that to mark World Ozone Day Celebrations, over 200 students from eleven prominent Colleges ofthe city participated in this Inter-College Poster & Collage Making Contest and also an Intra-College Face-painting, Slogan Writing & Book-mark making contest organized for students of Govt. Home Science College, Chandigarh.

Appreciating the young student participants on the occasion Mr. Debendra Dalai, Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration shared that the ozone layer, a fragile shield of gas, protects the Earth from the harmful portion of the rays of the sun. It has protected human health and ecosystems by limiting the harmful ultraviolet radiation from reaching the earth. And every year September 16th is celebrated world over as Ozone Day to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity.

Mr. Dalai also added that it’s heartening to see the very positive response they got today by way of good participation of local Colleges in the initiative. And he expect the young people to become agents of change in their Colleges and communities by turning public opinion in favour of green living a lifestyle that tries in as many ways as it can to bring into balance the conservation and preservation of the Earth's natural resources, habitats, and biodiversity with human culture and communities.

The winner of Inter-College Poster Making Contest were 1st Prize-Sukhprit Singh, Post Gradutate Govt. Colleg, Sector 46, 2nd Prize-Harry Singh Doga, Govt. Industrial Training Institute, Sector 28 & 3rd Prize was bagged by Sana Sawhney of Chandigarh College of Architecture, Sector 12, Chandigarh. The winner of Inter-College Collage Making Contest were Neha of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, 2nd Prize-Kajal Dhiman of Home Science College and 3rd Prize went to Anuradha Raj Bhar of Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, Chandigarh.

Later in the day, street plays on ‘Say No to Single Use of Plastics’ were organized at Students Centre, Panjab University and village Khudda Lahora, Chandigarh.
