CHANDIGARH,17.01.20-Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women campus reverberated with melody of soulful music as renowned santoor player S. Kirpal Singh and celebrity tabla player Ustad Akram Khan performed during Sh.Jatinder Kumar Memorial Programme here today. Organised under the aegis of Music Department of the college, the performance was a part of a skill development workshop on Indian classical music. Sh. Jatinder Kumar Memorial Programme is the annual melodious tradition of the college since 1990 in the fond memory of Prof.Jatinder Kumar- the founding member of Music Department at MCM. Lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana lent an auspicious start to the programme. Ahead of his scintillating performance, S. Kirpal Singh shared enriching information with the audience regarding the history of santoor and the nuances of playing santoor. Accompanied by Ustad Akram Khan, S. Kirpal Singh mesmerized the audience with soul-stirring performance that drew thunderous applause from the audience.

Principal Dr.Nisha Bhargava said that Sh.Jatinder Kumar Memorial Programme is an ode to the musical genius of Sh.Jatinder Kumar ji whose contribution to music continues to inspire the Music Department and the budding musicians of the college. Dr.Bhargava added that a true tribute to him would be to educate the younger generation to carry forward our rich musical heritage.
