5 Days Theatre Webinar Commences at PU

The Department of Indian Theatre , Panjab University is organising a Webinar on "Theatre :Yesterday and Today" from 1st - 6th June 2020.

The resource person for the webinar is Sh.Bharat Ratna Bhargava, Kulguru , Natyakulam SansthanJaipur, Rajasthan.He is an eminent actor, director, poet, playwright and theatre critic. Retd. Dy. Secretary, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. A former producer of Hindi programmes, B.B.C.London.

Scholars and Students from all over India are participating in the same. This webinar is designed to discuss the most powerful and creative legacy of the journey of theatre since its inception to modern times unfolding the scenario for tommorow , said Dr.Navdeep Kaur, Chairperson of the Department.

Everyday, the webinar will conduct one lecture, containing two parts; each followed by a question-answer round. It will be very useful for the scholars and students of the theatre and performing arts to learn and discuss about the challenges and changes we are facing in the present times while travelling though the path of our glorious past.

Dr. Navdeep Kaur further states that the webinar seeks to recreate the voyage of in the theatre, where there are no boundaries of time and space; where all experience blends together seamlessly.

PU Extends date for Regd Graduate Constituency

It is hereby notified that the Syndicate in its meeting held on 30.05.2020, has extended the date for submission of forms for fresh enrolment for Registered Graduate Constituency up to 16.06.2020 (Tuesday), informed Prof Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University Chandigarh.

He added that the forms will continue to be received at Single Window II (opposite PU Guest House) in the Panjab University Campus from 11.00 AM to 12.00 Noon on all working days.

Prof. Rajinder Kaur joins as new Director UILS, PU

Prof. Rajinder Kaur joined as Director at University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, here today, for a term of three years. Prof. Kaur did her LL.B. and LL.M. with First Division besides Ph.D. on “A Socio-Legal study of the Problem of Violation of Rights of the Child in India” from Panjab University and Post Graduate Diploma in Media laws from the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad.

She specializes in Private International Trade Law, Corporate Laws, and Property Laws and brings teaching & research experience of about two decades, with the rare distinction of being the youngest Professor of Law and Director at UILS. Prof. Kaur is heading Centre for Trade Laws and Dispute Resolution (CTDR) at UILS and is also visiting faculty at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi and Institute of Management and Technology, Ghaziabad.

She has seven books and fifty-five research articles to her credit. Last year, Prof. Kaur was invited to deliver a talk on Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University, Malibu, USA and also had been an external peer reviewer as a Foreign Quality Assurance (QA) Expert for Drawing and Painting Discipline and Printmaking Discipline of Khulna University, Bangladesh.

An alumnus of Panjab University, Prof. Kaur says her main focus will be to take UILS to further heights by imparting knowledge, skills, and values necessary to not only serve the bench/bar but also to serve the nation and society at large and to provide leadership at local, national and global level. Prof. Rajinder Kaur has replaced Prof. Rattan Singh as Director, UILS.

One month Online Course on “Programming with Python” started at PU

One month online course from 1-30 June,2020 on “Programming with Python” kick started at Panjab University, Chandigarh today by University Institute of Engg and Technlogy,Panjab University and was inaugurated by Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor. He stressed upon the growing need of online learning platforms along with the role of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Internet of Things(IoT) skills for upliftment of youth specially the underprivileged ones. The course is being delivered through GoToMeeting Web conferencing and Google Classroom. Eminent speakers from industry and academia are acting as subject experts. 240 participants from various technical Diploma/Degree colleges are participating in the course.

This course is the first capacity building activity under the Capacity Building and Research Entrepreneurship Centre in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and IoT for SC/ST sanctioned to Panjab University by Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India in March 2020. Various other courses are planned under the centre in near future in the thematic fields of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and IoT.

The course is coordinated by the team of project investigators consisting of Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Dr. Amandeep Puri, Dr. Puneet Jai Kaur, Dr. Harish Kumar, Dr. Sakshi Kaushal and Dr. Akashdeep Sharma from Computer Science and Engineering Department, UIET, Panjab University.

On the basis of decision taken during the Syndicate held on 30th May 2020, Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Deptt. of Zoology, joined today as Dean Student Welfare(Women) and Dr. Rupinder Kaur has joined as Chief Medical Officer, Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Institute of Health, PU .

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU under authorization from the Syndicate, gave charge of Dean Student Welfare to Prof. S.K. Tomar,Department of Mathematics, PU till 27.6.2020.

University Institute of Engineering and Technology,(UIET) Panjab University, Chandigarh launched new in house products for COVID A team from UIET Workshop was
formed by Director UIET Dr. Savita Gupta, under supervision of Harbhinder Singh Assistant Professor Mechanical Engineering Department to launch the new innovative products in this pandemic situation. The team successfully manufactured following
three products for COVID 19:

1.Touch Free hand sanitizer : This product is sensor based, when a person will put
his hands below the nozzle, it pours sufficient quantity of sanitizer. It is low
cost product and its cost is less Rs 4000.

2.Foot Operated Sanitizer Stand : When force is applied by foot on the base pedal,
it pushes the pump of sanitizer bottle.


3. UV Light Cabinet : In this product UV light is made to fall on paper to make the paper virus free.

These projects were inaugurated by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University today for use in the University Campus.
