CHANDIGARH,17.03.24-The Association of Emergency Medicine Educators Conference (AEMECON), a significant event in the field of emergency medicine, was jointly organised by the Division of Acute and Emergency Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine and the Association of Emergency Medicine Educators at PGIMER, Chandigarh, from 15th March to 17th March 2024. Over 500 delegates nationwide attended the conference.

Seven diverse workshops were held, each catering to emergency medicine and nursing professionals' unique needs. Various departments of PGIMER, like Pulmonology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Neurology, and Nursing education, were part of the conference to offer a comprehensive learning experience.

Dr Arunachalam Einstein, a renowned figure in Trauma and emergency medicine from Seattle, USA, delivered a talk on Recent research updates in Trauma Medicine. He is the director of the Association of Emergency Medicine Educators, a non-profit organisation that educates people on emergency medicine, and his insights were invaluable.

Dr Venkat Kotamraju, a leading figure in emergency medicine from the United Kingdom, and Dr Thiagarajan Jaiganesh, an esteemed practitioner from the United Arab Emirates, conducted a workshop on communication skills for emergency residents and faculty. Their expertise and insights were invaluable in teaching the participants the best practices for patient interaction in the busy emergency department.

Prof Navneet Sharma, the organising Chairperson and the head of the Acute Care and Emergency Medicine division moderated a session on the future of emergency medicine residents in India. He highlighted the need for specialised training in Acute Care and Emergency Medicine.

Dr Mohan Kumar H, the organising secretary, gave the vote of thanks. He informed the conference delegates that emergency training should be wider than the first few hours of arrival to the hospital, as the current overboard may make the patients stay longer. Hence, the emergency trainees should be trained more in acute care.

The conference also featured competitive sessions to foster learning and engagement among emergency medicine residents and nursing professionals. These sessions included oral presentations, poster presentations, and quizzes, providing a platform for participants to showcase their knowledge and skills.
