All police personnel deemed to be on deputation of ECI: Sibin C

Chandigarh, March 20: Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Sibin C, informed that in respect of the Model Code of Conduct regarding General Election to Lok Sabha 2024, all officers and personnel of the Police Department, ranging from the rank of Director General of Police to Constable, shall be deemed to be on deputation of the Election Commission of India. This is owing to their direct or indirect involvement in the management and conduct of elections as per the provisions of Section 28A of the Representation of People Act, 1951, with immediate effect.

Sibin C further stated that a Gazette Notification has been issued by the State Government to this effect. He clarified that the aforementioned order shall be applicable to Director General of Police, Additional Director Generals of Police, Inspector Generals of Police (both at headquarters and in the field), Commissioners of Police, Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (both at headquarters and in the field), Assistant Inspector Generals of Police (both at headquarters and in the field), Senior Superintendents of Police, Superintendents of Police, Sub-Divisional Police Officers such as Deputy Superintendents of Police, and other police officers/officials including Inspectors, Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors, Head Constables, and Constables.

The orders of deputation will remain in force till the end of the Election Process, he added.

VB nabs ASI for taking Rs 20,000 bribe to submit challan in court

Chandigarh March 20 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Darshan Singh, posted at police station Sherpur, Sangrur district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned police personnel has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Binder Singh, a resident of village Herike, Sangrur. He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said ASI was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from his friend Gurjot Singh and his mother Karamjit Kaur, residents of same village who were nominated in a police case registered at police station Sherpur. The complainant further alleged that the accused police personnel had already taken bribes on different occasions in lieu of presenting supplementary challan to the court in their case and now demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary investigation of this complaint the a VB team has laid a trap and arrested ASI Darshan Singh red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Patiala range and further investigation into this case was progress, he said.

VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS SDM OFFICE BILL CLERK FOR TAKING RS. 20,000 BRIBE

Chandigarh March 20 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Wednesday nabbed Narinder Kumar, Bill Clerk, posted at SDM Office, Mohali, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Yadvinder Singh, a resident of village Landran, District S.A.S. Nagar.

He informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said accused has been demanding Rs. 40000 as a bribe in lieu of clearance of two bills amounting to Rs. 4,09,390 each pertaining to refund of court fees regarding a land settlement case of his father-in-law Kesar Singh, resident of village Chachu Majra, in S.A.S. Nagar district. The complainant further added that the accused had already taken Rs. 20000 from him and demanding the remaining bribe amount.

The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint a VB team laid a trap in which the said accused has been arrested red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at police station VB flying squad-1, Mohali, Punjab at Mohali and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Executive Officer Wakf Board for taking Rs 15,000 bribe

Chandigarh March 20 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign, on Wednesday nabbed Layak Ahmed, Executive Officer, Punjab Wakf Board, posted at Bathinda red handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said this case has been registered against the above said official on the complaint of Narinder Kumar Monga, a resident Gidderbaha in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, who is now residing at Dhakoli, Zirakpur.

Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said Walf Board official has demanded Rs 50,000 as a bribe in lieu of providing land on lease in Bathinda and agreed to take Rs 20,000 as advance money besides two blank cheques from the complainant.

The spokesperson further added that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team has laid a trap in which the said accused has been arrested red handed while accepting first instalment of bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB team has also recovered two blank cheques from him which were taken from the complainant.

In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the above mentioned revenue official at VB police station Bathinda range. He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation in this case was under progress, he informed.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Patwari for taking Rs 3,000 bribe

Chandigarh March 20 :The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign, on Tuesday nabbed a revenue Patwari Vinod Kumar, posted at revenue halqua Giddranwali, Fazilka district red handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said this case has been registered against the above said revenue official on the complaint of Amrik Singh, a resident village Ghallu in Fazilka district.

Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said Patwari has demanded Rs 8,000 as a bribe in lieu of providing copies of Fard of his ancestral land. The complainant further alleged that the said Patwari has already taken Rs 1,000 and demanding the second instalment of bribe of Rs 3,000.

The spokesperson further added that after preliminary investigation of this complaint a VB team has laid a trap in which the accused Patwari has been arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the above mentioned revenue official at VB police station Ferozepur range. He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation in this case was under progress, he informed.

VB arrests Inspector Food & Civil Supplies for misappropriation of Wheat stock

Chandigarh March 20 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday has apprehended Inspector Sushil Kumar, Food and Civil Supplies Department Punjab, posted at Pathankot for misappropriation of Wheat stock allotted by the Government under various welfare schemes.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said during and enquiry it was found that the above mentioned accused had misappropriated Wheat stock totalling to more than 2079 Quintals, thereby causing financial loss of lakhs of rupees to the state exchequer. He further informed that the said accused has been arrested registered a FIR No. 14 under sections 13(1), 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and under section 409 of IPC against the accused at VB police station Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation was under progress, he said.
