Apart from EPIC, voters can present 12 additional documents to cast vote: Sibin C

Chandigarh, March 22:To facilitate voters in Punjab during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has recognized 12 additional documents as proof of identity, in addition to the Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC), for casting votes on June 1, 2024. Any of these documents can be presented by the voter as proof of identity at the polling station.

The ECI has issued directives stating that voters who do not possess an EPIC can utilize 12 alternative documents to establish their identity.

Quoting the directives of the Election Commission of India, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, Sibin C, informed that voters without an EPIC can still cast their votes if they possess any of the following alternative documents: Aadhaar card, MGNREGA job card, Bank or Post office passbooks with photographs, Health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, Driving License, PAN card, Smart card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian Passport, Pension documents with photograph, service ID cards (with photograph) issued by Central or State governments or Public Sector Undertakings/Public limited Companies, official identity card issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs, and Unique Disability ID (UDID) issued by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. These total 12 documents to be used as identity proof.

He urged all voters to participate in the Lok Sabha elections with utmost enthusiasm. Sibin C emphasized that the Election Commission's target of "Is Vaar 70 Paar" cannot be achieved without the active participation of voters, hence all voters must exercise their franchise.

ECI appoints five new SSPs in Punjab: Sibin C

Chandigarh, March 22:Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C on Friday said that the Election Commission of India has appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSPs) of five districts in the state.

Divulging the details, the CEO said that Deepak Pareek has been posted as SSP Bathinda while Ankur Gupta has been posted as SSP Jalandhar Rural. Similarly, Simrat Kaur has been appointed SSP Malerkotla, Suhail Qasim Mir as SSP Pathankot and Dr. Pragya Jain has been posted as SSP Fazilka.

Vigilance Bureau arrests assistant of Patwari for demanding Rs 10,000 bribe

Chandigarh March 22 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign, on Friday arrested Sukhwinder Singh, an assistant cum driver of a revenue Patwari, posted at revenue halqua, Jodhpur Pakhar, Bathinda district for demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said this case has been registered against the above said accused on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kewal Singh, a resident village Mansa Kalan in Bathinda district on the Chief Minister Anti Corruption Action Line.

Giving details he added that the complainant has has alleged in his complaint that he approached the halqua Patwari Gurcharn Singh where his driver has demanded Rs 10,000 as a bribe in lieu of issuing report regarding warrants for possession of his land. The complainant has recorded the entire conversation while the accused was demanding bribe money.

The spokesperson further added that during investigation of this complaint the allegations levelled by the complainant found to be correct and true that the above said accused had demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant for the said motive. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the above mentioned revenue official at VB police station Bathinda range. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he informed.

VB nabs MC Building Inspector for taking Rs 25,000 bribe

Chandigarh March 22 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its drive against corruption in the state, on Friday arrested Harbaksh Singh, posted as Building Inspector at Municipal Council Barnala while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Rashpal Singh, a resident of Barnala.

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said Building Inspector was demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 for passing the map of his motor workshop situated at Handiaya chowk, Barnala city and the deal has been struck at Rs 25,000.

The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint a VB team laid a trap and the said accused was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a FIR under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at police station VB range Patiala. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Patwari for accepting Rs 8,000 bribe

Chandigarh, March 22, 2024 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Friday has apprehended revenue Patwari, Manish Kumar, a resident of Bajwa Colony, Gaunspura, tehsil Batala, in Gurdaspur district for accepting bribe of Rs 8,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned revenue official has been arrested after an inquiry of a complaint lodged by Shamsher Singh, a resident of village Hardochande in Gurdaspur on the Chief Minister Anti Corruption Action Line.

He further informed that during the investigation of the said complaint it was established that the accused had demanded Rs 10,000 for making entry of NOC issued by the Bank in revenue records of the complainant. The complainant has also alleged that the accused had earlier accepted Rs. 1,500 in cash and got transferred Rs 6,500 in two installments. Subsequently, accused Patwari has been arrested and a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station Amritsar range. He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said
