CHANDIGARH,24.03.24-The Advanced Eye Centre at PGIMER, Chandigarh, celebrated its 18th Founders' Day on March 23, 2024. The event was marked by the release of a book titled "Ophthalmic Signs in Practice of Medicine," authored by Prof. Amod Gupta, Prof. Reema Bansal, Prof. Aman Sharma, and Mr. Arun Kapil.

The Founder's Day celebrations began with Prof. SS Pandav, the Head of the Department, discussing the center's achievements over the past year. Notable accomplishments included the implementation of a Queue Management System to reduce patient wait times and the waiver of refraction and visual field charges to streamline patient queues.

Furthermore, the Advanced Eye Centre successfully implemented an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, improving patient friendliness and enhancing the experience for the numerous patients visiting the center. The acquisition of advanced equipment such as the Artevo Microscope and Fundus photography flex machine was also highlighted by Prof. Pandav. These technological advancements have been vital in training residents and capturing fundus photographs of babies with Retinopathy of Prematurity (RoP).

The prestigious Founders' Day program was formally inaugurated by Chief Guest Prof. Vivek Lal, Director of PGIMER. Prof. Lal commended the Advanced Eye Centre as the pride of PGI, Chandigarh, for its consistent excellence over several years.

During the event, Dr. Deepak Edward, a renowned glaucoma specialist from the University of Illinois, USA, delivered the 18th Founders’ Day Lecture on the topic of "Professionalism in Ophthalmology." Additionally, Dr. Partha Biswas, an eminent ophthalmologist from Trinetralaya, Kolkata, presented the Dr. N.D. Lakhanpal Lecture. The event also featured guest lectures by distinguished professionals in the field, including Dr. Suma Ganesh, Dr. Vinay Nangia, Dr. Muralidhar Ramappa, Dr. Minakshi Swaminathan, Dr. Suresh Pandey, Dr. Pradeep Mohanta, Dr. G R Reddy, and Dr. Prashant Bawankule.

In conjunction with the Founders' Day celebrations, Prof. Vivek Lal also released the book "Ophthalmic Signs in Practice of Medicine." This book, authored by Prof. Amod Gupta, Prof. Reema Bansal, Prof. Aman Sharma, and Mr. Arun Kapil, is first-of-its-kind which offers a unique focus on ophthalmic signs rather than diseases, thereby complementing the study and practice of medicine.
