MC Chandigarh honours its workers on Labour Day-*Organises preventive health check up camp for its workers

Chandigarh, May 1:- Aiming to spread awareness of labour rights, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh celebrated International Labour day with a large number of workers participating in various programmes across the city, including cultural performances, programmes and meetings etc.

Acknowledging their dedication and resilience in ensuring a healthier workplace, the MC Chandigarh has organized an on-site preventive health check-up camp at C&D waste plant, Industrial area, Phase-I, here today to mark Labour Day. Aiming to diagnose respiratory and lung-related issues developed due to exposure to hazardous work environments, nearly 200 labourers were checked during the camp.

The Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS thanked the labour force for their contribution in building the nation and said that the labourers toil day and night contributing immensely in the progress of the city beautiful. She said that the MCC also renewed the commitment towards the welfare of its workers and to bring prosperity in their lives.

She extended her gratitude and appreciation to all the workers of every field and said that the MCC has cleared the arrears of 7th Pay Commission to its class 4 staff giving them huge relief.

Similar programmes were organized at Central Plaza, Sector 17, where the Medical Officer of Health and other senior officers of MCC honoured sanitation workers, who play a crucial role in maintaining public hygiene and cleanliness, often working long hours in difficult conditions. At Water Works, Sector 32 to honour Safaimitras and employees of the public health wing besides a similar programme was organized at Horticulture Stores at Sector 47, 33 and 36 to honour gardeners and workers of the Horticulture wing. In a programme held at Garbage Processing Plant, workers were honoured by the senior officers for their dedication and hard work towards segregation and processing of waste produced from the city.

In addition to that a cultural programme was organized by the workers of B&R wing, MCC at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38 where their hard work and contributions towards the city was recognized by the senior officers of MCC.

The Commissioner extended her gratitude towards the hard work of workers and acknowledged the essential role that these workers play in maintaining the city's roads, parks, street lights, market areas, public places and infrastructure. She thanked them for their efforts in keeping the city's transportation network running smoothly.

She said that the MCC took pride in recognizing the hard work of its employees, especially on International Labour Day. The city recognizes the dedication and commitment of all workers and acknowledges their contribution to the city's growth and development, she added.

MC run parking lots gear up for improved operations and enhanced revenue collection

Introduces digital payments through QR code for parking fee

Chandigarh, May 1:- In order to streamline parking and earn additional revenue, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has revamped the paid parking system after introducing digital payments through QR code aims to reduce opportunities for any kind of leakages and ensuring accuracy of revenue recorded.

In order to avoid inconvenience to the visitors and to enhance revenue generation, several improvements have been introduced by the MC Chandigarh. Proper uniform and Identity Cards have been given to parking attendants for easy identification. Payable rate lists and instructions to customers have been displayed in all the paid parking lots. The Jana Small Finance Bank Ltd. has been associated for handling of collection of paid parking and facilities provided for management of paid parking lots.

Visitors shall now be able to pay the parking fee through QR code scanner in 71 paid parking lots, which are being managed by the MC Chandigarh in sectors 5, 7, 8, 9, 17, 20, 22, 26, 34, 35, 43, Manimajra and Multiplexs of Chandigarh.

As per the rate list, currently, Rs. 7/- for two wheelers and Rs. 14/- for four wheelers (non commercial), Rs. 28/- for LCV/Mini Bus, Service Jeep/Cab/Taxi/Three Wheeler and Rs. 70/- for Tourist Buses/HCV have been displayed in the rate list.

These steps have been introduced to minimise the long queues of vehicles due to cash payments and cumbersome PoS machines at most of the parking lots, further leading to traffic chaos.

Further , the parking staff deployed in all the paid parking lots have been provided new uniforms and Identity Cards so that visitors can identify the parking staff easily. These improvements aim to not only streamline the parking system for the visitors but also ensure better monitoring of collection of parking fee.
