22 nominations filed by 20 candidates on second day of filing nominations in Punjab: Sibin C

Chandigarh May 8:On the second day of filing of nominations for the Lok Sabha elections-2024, 22 nominations have been filed by 20 candidates for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.

Disclosing this here on Wednesday, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C said that one candidate each has filed his nomination papers from Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Anandpur Sahib and Fatehgarh Sahib Lok Sabha constituencies.

Five candidates have filed their nominations from Sangrur, while three candidates each have filed their nominations from Amritsar and Patiala.

Two of the three candidates from Patiala have filled two nominations forms each. Two candidates have filed their nominations from Faridkot and three from Ludhiana. No candidate filed nomination papers for Ferozepur, Khadoor Sahib, Bathinda and Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha seats on Wednesday, the Chief Electoral Officer said.

Pertinently, on May 7, 15 nominations were filed by 13 candidates in the state.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Architect for taking Rs 10,000 bribe

Chandigarh, May 8, 2024 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday has apprehended an Architect named Sahil Bihari Sharma while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Pirthipal Singh, a resident of Mirakot Chowk, Amritsar.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said accused has demanded Rs 20,000 to help him in getting issued a no objection certificate (NOC) for sale of his shop from the officials of Municipal Corporation, Amritsar.

The spokesperson added that after preliminary investigation of this complaint a VB team has laid a trap during which the accused Architect was caught red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station, Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress.
