Mayor inaugurates toilet block in market at sector 16

Chandigarh, November 19:- Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh on Tuesday inaugurated a renovated toilet block in the Market of Sector 16 D here today in the presence of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, area councilor, Sh. Sanjay Arora, Chief Engineer, MCC, office bearers and members of the area Market welfare Association and Market committee of sector 16.

While speaking on the occasion the Mayor said that reconstructed at a cost of ₹20 lakh in the market, the toilet block has facilities for children and transgender also besides provision of sanitary pads and sanitary incinerator in the ladies toilet blocks for scientific disposal of sanitary pads.

The Commissioner said on the occasion that all toilet blocks in city markets and parks were Geotagged and could be located through Google Maps. He said that QR codes have been provided at each block and can be scanned to report any problem, such as sewerage blockage, water leakage and missing taps.

The Commissioner said under the Swachh Bharat Mission and following the parameters of Water Plus, all the old toilet blocks are being revamped/re-constructed by adding more facilities and modern plumbing accessories.

Cleaning Drives Organized at 331 CT/PT Citywide, Honoring "स्वच्छता सेवी" on World Toilet Day

Chandigarh, 19 November: On World Toilet Day, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) acknowledges and celebrates the exceptional efforts of sanitation workers, recognized as "स्वच्छता सेवी," in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the city’s public facilities.

To honor their selfless service, a citywide cleaning campaign was organized across 331 CT/PT toilets, showcasing the power of community collaboration in promoting hygienic conditions. Members of Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and the MCC team enthusiastically participated, demonstrating their commitment to the well-being of Chandigarh's residents as part of the Clean Toilets Campaign, launched under SBM (U) 2.0 by MoHUA from 19 November 2023 to 25 December 2023.

The Municipal Corporation, along with citizens, recognizes the remarkable work of "स्वच्छता सेवी" in maintaining public conveniences. Their tireless efforts to ensure these facilities are inclusive and accessible deserve commendation, highlighting their significant contributions to cleanliness and hygiene in Chandigarh.

Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, expressed gratitude to the "स्वच्छता सेवी" for their dedication to maintaining high standards, reflecting the spirit of inclusivity and accessibility for all.

The Commissioner noted that Chandigarh is home to 331 toilets, with an impressive 50% managed by MWAs, RWAs, SHGs, and NGOs. The MCC remains committed to ensuring these sanitation facilities meet the highest hygiene and maintenance standards.

Additionally, the Commissioner shared that Chandigarh secured 3rd place nationwide in the Clean Toilets Challenge (CTC) held from 19 November to 25 December 2023, under SBM (U) 2.0 by MoHUA. With 95% of public conveniences meeting FACES standards (Functional, Accessible, Clean, Eco-friendly, and Safe), the Municipal Corporation sets a high benchmark for sanitation, hygiene, inclusivity, and accessibility. This achievement is made possible through active community participation and consistent efforts by sanitation staff and the MCC team.

The Clean Toilets Campaign, launched by MoHUA, aims to improve sanitation facilities nationwide.
